I’ve been floating around in internet-land, and finding quite a few comments about the number 11 – about September 11th, most recently March 11th, and other 11-related events. I found myself wanting to chime in.
But first, some numerological details (after all, I am a numerologist):
The number 11 is known in numerology as a master number. 22, 33, 44, etc are also master numbers. Yet to understand 11, we must first understand 1 and 2.
1 is the individual, the initiator, the leader. It is an action number, and is great with starting things…but not so great at finishing things. It also stands alone, and in doing so, doesn’t need other people to motivate it – it gets and acts upon ideas itself simply because it can and so it does. 1 tends to be a leader not so much because it leads, but because it goes first, leaving others no other choice but to follow. 1 tends to be the pioneer of the trail. In more spiritual terms, it is said that 1 represents the self’s connection to God-Source, a direct line of connection and communication from Spirit to humanity, and vice-versa. Some spiritual beliefs even perceive Human and Source as one in the same.
2 is the partner, the follower, the supporter. It is great at being behind the scenes, not really wanting the spotlight. In fact it would rather be in a position of putting others or another in that spotlight. 2 finds its greatness through supporting others in finding theirs, and rarely wants public credit for it. 2 does not like to be alone or do anything alone. Even if it manages to go its own way for a bit, it quickly seeks out another person to either follow or to travel alongside.
11 is a double 1. 11 wants to awaken and teach others with no agenda other than bringing others to a higher awareness of themselves and the world around them. It’s like a 2 in that it seeks to support others in their journeys through life, yet it is more like 1 in that it is definitely an initiator and walks through life to the beat of its own drummer. As a double 1, 11 thrives on its uniqueness and being one-of-a-kind. It wants to bring something new and different to others, not just re-hash the same as what’s already out there. 11 wants to inspire, illuminate, and awaken themselves and others to originality and brilliance.
In more spiritual terms, 11 is considered a gateway of sorts – a gate of consciousness and awareness one must pass through on their journey to enlightenment. Some embrace it and pass through, while others avoid or fear passing through it. Nevertheless, 11 can bring us to awareness of our collective wholeness and our individual expression within that collective. It can lead us to ask what our individual contribution is to the greater whole – to ask what our individual role is meant to be in the midst of all this change.
Which is why we’ve had so many major events occur on ‘11’ days in the last decade or so. These events are meant to awaken us mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually – to awaken us to what is occurring in the world and within ourselves, and to inspire us to approach things in new and different ways. These events are happening to illuminate us and encourage us to step into our power and greatness. Humanity is being encouraged to shift and evolve. Some of us are embracing this shift, while more of us seem to be resisting it.
Some of these events have been horrible natural or man-made disasters. Some people will label these as punishment for whatever wrongs they perceive in the world or in their own life experiences. However, there are two sides to every coin, and these events – as devastating as they may be – are also opportunities for growth and expansion of collective awareness, self-awareness, and of love and truth in the world and in humankind. Think about how many people have come together to support the recovery of various areas in the world that have been going through challenges. Think about how technology has accelerated not only communication of these events, but how it has accelerated the human connection and expression of compassion and love we have for each other. Yes, technology has also accelerated expressions of hate, fear and destruction…yet in the presence of both, it illuminates that we each and all have a choice – we can choose fear, hate and destruction, or we can choose compassion, love and healing.
We can choose what our experience of the stuff of life is going to be. We can choose to be closed off or open to all that life brings and has to offer. We can choose to pass through the gate of illumination that 11 provides us, or we can choose not to. There are no right or wrong choices – only choices…and we get to live with the choices we make.
Our individual and collective evolution is up to us. At any given moment, what do we choose for ourselves? What do we choose for humanity? It’s up to us.
