About 6 months ago. I was participating in a personal development program and I was very frustrated. In fact, my everyday life was falling apart and becoming more unstable by the minute, despite the promise that I’d have the exact opposite experience. I began to look around me, and noticed that inside and outside the program, I saw a lot of people around me who also were participating in a lot of programs, seminars, workshops, and attending a lot of networking events being conducted by a lot of different sources and associations…but that’s all they really seemed to be doing – attending and participating in a lot of things. And according to many of them, they also weren’t really getting what they were seeking for their lives out of these things. There was plenty of time spent learning, maybe even more time spent talking and sharing ideas, but at some point, I found myself wondering what any or all of us were actually doing since we were always spending our time and money on and around these types of events.
Don’t get me wrong – I’m all for “lifelong learning”. I believe the second we close our minds to a new activity, a new perspective or a new way of doing things, we are settling for status quo and setting ourselves up for stagnation…or at least a good life lesson in opening a closed mind.
But as I engaged in this inquiry 6 months ago, I noticed I was taking a lot of action but not getting a whole lot accomplished because my heart wasn’t really in what I was doing…that is, if I was taking action at all. In the areas of my life I wasn’t taking action, it was because I was waiting for my heart’s desires to magically appear – as if attending these classes without taking actions to apply what I learned would somehow have my desires spontaneously manifest before me. And I was waiting for ‘magic’ because I was afraid to do what I really wanted to do out of my fear of failure (otherwise known as looking bad to others).
Ultimately, my actions weren’t authentic because my mind was in them, but my heart wasn’t. I was denying my heart with logic. And because I was denying my heart, there was no ‘magic’ to be found.
What my heart was telling me was to get my butt out of the chairs I was sitting in and to start applying everything I was learning – to take the tools I was being given outside the rooms and out into the rest of the world, to live my life by example. I realized that I was frustrated and miserable simply because I wasn’t using the distinctions I was learning in the program(s) in my everyday life on what would truly bring me joy and fulfillment.
Out of my experiences and my inquiry, there’s a few things I took note of about action.
First of all, Newton’s 3rd Law is an aspect of Universal Truth – every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Action creates space for reaction to occur, and humans are masters at utilizing this law, whether we realize it or not. Sadly, most of us have become masters at taking actions in order to get specifically-desired reactions to come into the space. Not many of us take actions to create while remaining open-mined and open-hearted, trusting that our Highest good will organically come in to fill the spaces we’ve created.
- There are actions we take because we think they’ll get us the attention or affection we crave.
- There are the actions we take because we think they’ll get others to like us…or at least get others to give us stuff.
- There are the actions we take to make us look like we’re up to things, but really they only cover up the fact that we’re spinning our wheels.
- There are actions we take because we want to prove something to someone else…usually that we or someone else is right or wrong.
- There are the actions we take because we think they’ll cover up what we really feel.
- There are the actions we take because we are consciously or unconsciously acting upon how we really feel about something.
- There are actions we take because we want to take them – because we feel called to take them from something deep within us.
- There are actions we take just because we can.
You probably notice that a few of those types of actions have applied to you at various points in your life. They may even apply right now. Notice which ones you operate from most often. And if so inclined, ask yourself why do you act that way, and what are you really accomplishing through your actions?
When I asked myself those questions six months ago, I found myself choosing a new path for myself and my life. I wanted to take everything I’d learned and actually apply it. No more classes, no more workshops, no more seminars…not unless they were offering something that I knew would be specifically applicable to and supportive of what I am up to in my life right now. And since that choice, things have markedly transformed. I feel good about myself and my life again. I am no longer waiting for life to happen to me, and I am living and excited by both what is and what may come into my life as I continue forward.
And when I say “what I am up to”, I mean what I am creating through my actions. I want to do what I do because I feel called to do it from deep within me – it feels like a True expression of who I am here to be. I want to be taking actions in my life to have my True soul expression to be my identity in the world, for others and especially for myself. After all, how can I be authentic with others if I don’t experience myself in that way?
I share all of that to say this: Action is creation, and creation is Love, and Love is the way of the Universe. Through action, ‘magic’ and miracles are born.
Today, on this first day of Spring, with Sun with Aries bringing in the Spring/Vernal Equinox at 4:21p PDT today, we spring forth into action…whether we are or not. There’s bound to be plenty of opportunities for action over the next few weeks, which means there are plenty of opportunities to create magic and miracles.
Be aware of what you are creating as we begin this new Zodiac cycle, and pay attention to what we are all creating together as we collectively engage in and respond to what is happening in the world. And as always, “actions speak louder than words”. So in the face of political uprisings and overthrows, natural disasters, and philanthropic efforts via technological advances, what are our actions creating for us and saying about us – both for our individual and collective life experiences?
I’ll leave you now for you (and me) to ponder that.
Until next week…
~Light, Love and Blessings,
Grace
