Today, December 26th, 2012, there is a mutual reception transit of rather significant proportion. Usually sextiles are pretty tame, helpful, pleasant transits that don’t make too many waves. This one may seem like that on the surface…but don’t let the pretty surface fool you. Underneath, there is some major transformation in progress – things are never going to be the same after these next few months, weeks, or possibly even days and hours.
Let’s explain who the players are:
Capricorn is a sign that is all about goals, ambitions, and tangible results. It is a cardinal earth sign, meaning that it has initiative energy about it – it likes to get things started…but it also has earth energy and earth likes things tangible and manifest so it wants results. Capricorn gets things in motion so that they get done. It is a motivator, a manager, an authoritative presence. Capricorn has only two intentions – get it done and get the desired results when you do it. Success and achievement are its goals.
Known as the father-figure of the Zodiac, Saturn is the ruling planet of the sign of Capricorn. Saturn is the planet of structure, discipline, authority, and stability. Under its influence, things can seem very restrictive or oppressive because of the afore-mentioned representations. On the other hand, sometimes Saturn can bring a stabilizing energy to situations or matters that would otherwise be a bit chaotic, unfocused, or undisciplined.
Saturn is currently traveling in the sign of Scorpio. Scorpio is a fixed water sign, and represents the deepest and darkest depths of emotion, psyche, and spirituality. It deals in extremes and polarities – everything is all-or-nothing, black-or-white. There is absolutely no gray area with Scorpio. It likes things to be decisive, and in choosing one option it will often cut the other option(s) completely out or off. For this reason, Scorpio is also associated with death. Scorpio is ruled by the planet of Pluto.
Pluto is the planet of transformation. Often when we think of death, we think of a completion or a definitive end. Yet in death, something is often cleared away for something new to be born in its place. Or, my favorite Pluto/Scorpio analogy – it’s like a forest fire that burns everything to ash, and after the rain, little green shoots come up out of the scorched earth bringing new life into manifestation in the wake of utter destruction. THAT is the power of Pluto. It will destroy everything that is outdated and outworn or untrue. It also tends to attack or destroy what it feels it cannot control or influence. It is a very powerful and extreme energy.
Pluto is currently traveling through the sign of Capricorn. Yes, that same Capricorn I mentioned before while discussing Saturn. With Pluto in Capricorn, this could very well show up as the destruction of well-established systems or the elimination of old and outdated structures for operating things. This could be the end of the way certain corporations or governments or other large institutions have done their thing. This could also represent a major shift in what is perceived as successful or accomplished – the old archetypes for public and/or professional status may be on their way out.
Likewise with Saturn in Scorpio. Suddenly, those in the roles of authority or power are given status and power based upon their abilities to instigate and facilitate transformation. They are being positioned and paid to make the big, sweeping overhauls of structures that no longer serve their purposes. Suddenly, money and stuff and a big important job title may not seem so significant on their own accord. Now, what you do and the results you get in actually performing your professional or public role are more important than what your position enables you to acquire for your personal show of strength. The bigger the positive transformation, the more public acknowledgment and professional capital you gain.
No longer will money and stuff rule the day – no longer will “(s)he who dies with the most toys win”. In this Age of the 5th Sun, in the wake of “The Great Transformation”, those who hold on to the old ideals will be pushed to the side. Of course, this doesn’t mean that those old, outdated ideals will go quietly. Oh no. This will be a fight.
We already see it in this whole fiscal cliff debacle happening in U.S. politics right now. Those who are trying to hold on to the ideal of wealth and material acquisition are butting heads with those who are trying to play Robin Hood by taking from the rich to give to the rest (or to the poor, depending on how you see it). Both sides are standing firmly in their opinions, unwilling to compromise and in being so, making themselves willing to take down the U.S. economy with their own ego-based battle of wills.
The U.S. Fiscal Cliff situation may one of the biggest examples…but it’s not the only one. There are also labor strikes and government battles over balanced compensation and constitutional rights happening all over the world right now, and most of these arguments are rooted in rich vs. poor or have-or-have not perspectives. The definition of success is being redefined as who and what does the best for the most, and our world is being transformed because of it. The old and the new are dueling it out for power and influence and, sadly, it’s going to be an ugly fight.
After this phase, things will never be the same.
Both Saturn and Pluto are slow-moving planets. The energy has been building for a while now, and it comes to a head today when the sextile aspect is exact at 5:41p PST today. Its impact will be felt for a few more days afterward, but the effects of that impact will be enduring.
Look around you and look in your own life to see the major changes that are occurring in the structures and systems in your life. You may also want to look at which houses in your personal astrology chart are affected by Scorpio and Capricorn to get a few more specifics on how this transit may affect you personally.
Thank you for reading and sharing. Until next post…

As I surf the net to get some idea what others think concerning the mutual reception which is operating now between Saturn and Pluto insightful associations abound to such an extent I think I will attempt to write a more extended comment than what I usually do in order to see more clearly the implications of the current astrological period. I take this period from 2008 with the entry of Pluto into Capricorn and those configurations which occur between 2008 and 2024 when Pluto will enter Aquarius. In several years Pluto will return to the place it occupied at the birth of this nation, 27 degrees 54 minutes Capricorn (retrograde).
And so the United States will experience it’s first Pluto return. I use the chart erected by Marc E. Jones (Mundane Perspectives in Astrology) which gives the U.S. a Gemini rising sign and places Pluto in the 9th house of a Placidian chart. That Pluto’s ingress into Capricorn was heralded by the financial crises of 2008 gives serious augury as to what this period will entail. But before I go on what I believe needs to be delineated before any really clear picture can emerge regarding what kind of transformation to expect. Among the major planetary movements and configurations that will take place during this period are: Pluto’s ingress into Capricorn, Neptune’s ingress into Pisces, Uranus’ ingress into Aries, Saturn’s movement from Virgo to Aquarius and Jupiter will make an equally significant transit through several signs as well before 2024. In addition there is the mutual reception between Neptune and Uranus early on, the mutual reception between Saturn and Pluto and the square which will operate between Uranus and Pluto between 2012 and 2016 in and out of exactness of orb during that time. As I pointed out in another blog, Grandtrines while reading their take on the Saturn/Pluto mutual reception it occurred to me with a chilling suddenness how much was being revealed in the media concerning finances, the economy and taxes. How much information is suddenly being made available concerning the economic and financial under-pining of this country through the institution of slavery and the marketing of cotton, sugar and tobacco and the efforts of the House of Rothschild to create a closed economic banking system to dominate the world. How such efforts affected the Presidencies of Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, John Garfield, Coolidge and Hoover (the depression) and John F. Kennedy and how they continue to this day to affect the quality of life with the recent HSBC and Liberty Reserve investigations in which the Obama administration has declared HSBC as too big to fail and so above the law and beyond prosecution. The fact the IRS investigation revealed the NFL is a 503. c 6 non-profit organization and as a result has not paid taxes since 1966, the reporters’ consortiums’ expose several weeks ago concerning the billionaires who are keeping their money in off-shore bank accounts again to avoid paying taxes, taxes which they know are not going to help the poor and unfortunate. We were warned before the turn off the century about the failing infrastructure (Pluto/Saturn/Neptune) and we suddenly have a spate of explosions in buildings due to improperly stored chemicals and collapsing bridges. The question of change is definitely on the floor but what kind of change…really? I am African-American and I voted for Obama, I like the guy but he not only is not doing the things everyone thought he would do he has continued some of Bush’s most damaging policies especially under the rubric of nation security. The whistle blowing of Snowden concerning the major governmental invasion of phone and e-mail records (Pluto/Uranus) shows how the “The United States is becoming the “Empire” to use a Star Wars metaphor. I am sure if a team were to devote time to the project they could track quite precisely the social and cultural manifestations of these planets from say 1776 – to perhaps several generations into the future. The problem is the group most in need of the change required are the very “plutocrats” who would be favored by Pluto during this period. Which mean when the dust clears they would still be in control. A movie due out later this summer “Elysium” with Matt Damon (Pluto/Neptune) gives quite a picture of a possible outcome, an outcome which does not speak very well for the suffering masses. Many of us who have pursued esoteric ideas seriously in the search for something better realize all to well in order to bring the Will of God to Earth it’s going to take a lot more than planetary placements. If a sufficient number of the people are not equally sufficiently aware you will get things like the reign of terror. Still, astrology if it is to have any practical contemporary benefit most be able help mankind both on the individual transpersonal and social levels to affect the necessary transformation of consciousness which will benefit a majority of humanity not an elite minority which is what has always benefited mostly if comfort through technological means is no counted as a primary benefit of humanity. Yes I am quite concerned about this…change and what I may look like in 11-12 years. Your Servant, James Page
