Mercury conjuncted Pluto in Capricorn on Sunday January 6th at 8:43a PST. It was a transit, so it’s not still affecting us directly…but its effect may have made a lasting impression upon us and our collective and individual perspectives of life.
On Sunday, I tweeted that the more you communicate your thoughts and ideas, the more your world changes to help you fulfill your intentions. Let me expand on that idea in this post.
First of all, the world is always changing. That’s because change is the only true constant in life. However, you may become more aware of the changes that directly affect you – more so than usual.
Mercury is all about our mental and intellectual energy. It is about communication and information. It is also about speed and quickness, and it doesn’t like to be in one place for a prolonged period of time.
In the sign of Capricorn, Mercury’s energy is focused and disciplined on the achievement of goals and ambitions. It wants its thoughts and ideas to produce tangible or measurable results. Therefore, Mercury in Capricorn is quick to notice anything that may help or hinder the production of its desired results.
Mercury conjuncted Pluto, also in Capricorn. Pluto is about power and control. It also deals with matters of life and death as well as other extremes. Pluto has a tendency to be a bit (or a lot) destructive, understanding that things must die or be destroyed in order to clear the slate for something new to emerge.
In Capricorn, that means that Pluto could destroy or eliminate old parameters of success and achievement in order to clear the way for new ones to be established. It could also mean that outdated structures need to be cleared out in order for goals to be accomplished and achieved. The benchmarks for success from the past may no longer be relevant – new benchmarks are being established. This also lends itself to a possible power struggle between the old ways being phased out and the new ways being implemented.
The combination of the Mercury and Pluto energies in Capricorn means that your mind is more focused on the power you have and how you wield that power in the process of achieving your objectives.
During this process, I want you to know – there will be conflict, and you will feel that challenge within you and/or around you. However, when you are focused on what you truly want, your experience of the world around you aligns with your intentions and beliefs to carry you through the difficult adjustments. Your mind’s intention to bring about change unlocks the power to bring about those changes, and things get even easier when you begin to see the results.
The intention isn’t only in your thoughts – it’s also in your own words. Under Mercury in Capricorn’s influence, be aware of how you speak to others as well as what you listen to from others. Speak in alignment with what you are striving to create. Listen to what helps feed and fuel your intentions and beliefs. Surround yourself with people and things that support the changes you are committed to making. All of this affects your mind…and therefore, your power.
With yesterday’s conjunction transit of Mercury and Pluto, it is likely that you had moments or a moment in which you became very aware of the power of the thoughts you are having as well as the transformations occurring in your life right now. Even if there wasn’t a distinct event yesterday, you may have had a moment of recognition of major changes underway in your life and the impact your mental and communicative power is having on those changes and their results.
Now you may have been present to results that you like. You may be very happy with what has begun showing up in your life as result of your focused and committed mind. This is a strong indicator that your mind is in alignment with (or at least at ease with) the transformations that are occurring in your life. You’re embracing these changes as they occur with optimism that you are on course to manifest everything you want, and you probably feel very powerful in doing so.
But you may be finding that the results you are getting are ones you don’t like or ones that you didn’t want. I’d invite you to consider that on some level of your mind or mental process, you are getting exactly what you wanted. You may feel very disempowered and saying, “But I really didn’t want this!!!” If this is the case for you, you may hold some subconsciously hidden or resisted beliefs behind what you outwardly say you want.
You may also find that there are aspects of your life that are phasing out or dissolving of their own accord and beyond your control. If you find you are upset about these endings, recognize that they are going away because they’ve served their purpose for you and you no longer need them to achieve your objectives. Your attachment to what is being phased out may be out of habit rather than true necessity. Resistance to these endings will likely leave you feeling powerless, but allowing and embracing them will have you feeling empowered.
However it comes about for you, transformation is rarely an easy process. Even when you are getting the changes you do want, there are often things and/or people to let go of and some sacrifices to be made in order to accomplish your goals. You’ll probably face some tough choices that leave you asking yourself what you really want or need to manifest in your life…and sometimes, you’ve got to give up what is easy, comfortable, safe, or fun in order to get there.
But the reward for all your work and challenges is the life that you really want. You get the results you want when you think and act in alignment with those intentions and commitments. Even if it doesn’t seem like it in the moment, even if it doesn’t show up exactly how you envisioned, remember that nothing ever leaves our lives without being replaced with something else. Whether it is replaced with something better or worse is up to you.
It’s the power of Mercury conjunct Pluto in the sign of Capricorn, and the power of thinking, speaking, and listening through change.
