As a planet travels through the signs in real time, it takes on many of the characteristics of the sign it is moving through – kind of like the old saying” When in Rome, do as the Romans do”.
In this case, Mars is happy to do so! Mars enters the sign of Leo at 7:05p PDT this evening, August 27th, 2013. When it does, it enters a fire element sign. Mars is the ruling planet of the sign of Aries – also a fire sign – so Mars is very comfortable in the sign of the Sun.
Mars itself represents action and initiative. It also represents competition and the act of war. Mars is the ruler of Aries, which is the “me first” sign, so it tends to want to be first even more than it wants to win.
But when Mars is in Leo, Mars wants both to be first and to win to prove its superiority and be acknowledged for being the winner. Therefore, ego-based pride or the need to prove one’s superiority can prove the spark of very heated conflict during Mars In Leo phases.
At its worst, Mars in Leo can be self-centered and assertive if not aggressive in seeking attention and/or acknowledgment from others. This is where hostile actions may be taken simply because someone else is getting more attention than you or because someone said or did something that bruised your ego and you need to make a spectacle of them in some way. This could also show up as hyper-competition as you may be influenced by Mars in Leo to not only win, but to make sure everyone around knows that you are the winner. This could be trouble for you, or you could be the cause of quite a bit of problematic drama as result of your forceful approach.
At its best, Mars in Leo will be warm, joyful, and generous. Eager to take action in creative endeavors and to bring joy and fun to the lives of others by shining its own Light, Mars in Leo may influence you to take actions that will bring attention and acknowledgment to people and causes that are creating Light in and for the world. This can be a very positive and beautiful influence on you and on others as result of you.
The two major aspects-transits that Mars in Leo will have during the current 2013 Virgo Sun Cycle are a square with Saturn in Scorpio on September 9th and a trine with Uranus Retrograde in Aries on September 14th. These could be a very interesting day as Mars may force you through pressure from Saturn to take action you don’t really want to take in order to evolve you emotionally and spiritually; and it may be inspired by Uranus to unexpectedly move you into action in the matter of making your place known within your communities and professional and/or social circles.
If you haven’t done anything before that time to deal with your deepest emotional depths and/or if you haven’t done anything to find or establish your unique role or contribution (or to determine that you may not have one where you are), the days around or on the 9th and the 14th could prove to be a profound time for you – one in which you finally face and accept your darkness to claim your unique expression your Light, and take actions in alignment with your Light (or your darkness) to make it known to yourself and others where you truly belong…even if ‘belonging’ means that you’re on your own. You may find that you belong in the role of trailblazer rather than simply choosing a trail that is already cleared by others.
That said, under the influence of Mars in Leo, you’ll likely have the energy to make your way forward and the Light to guide your way as you go. Just remember – the Light that guides you is within you not outside of you, and it is found by acknowledging your darkness first. Trying to get others to validate you and you actions is only a distraction from doing the deep emotional-spiritual exploration work you need to do within yourself; and trying to get others to give you your place in the world will be far more aggravating and far less fulfilling than taking action you are guided to take from within yourself to find or make your place for yourself. The more you follow your heart and your own inner Truth, the more joy and love you will create and experience and bring to the lives of others as well as yourself. Creation and happiness is not a competition with others, or at least it doesn’t have to be.
We would be wise to apply this awareness to our collective human journey as well. Mars in Leo energy can easily inflame conflicts among businesses, agencies, causes, and nations as well. This could bring forth hostile takeovers, overthrowing leaders and governments, or even all-out war in certain circumstances.
On that collective level, when the parties involved can drop their ego pride in the best interest of the greater good, Mars in Leo can progress in positive ways. By shifting perspective from proving superiority over each other to proving superiority over conflict to create peace, the win can be found in being a beacon of Light to the rest of the world! The parties involved could then receive acknowledgment for working things out in a way that triumphs over a difficult or challenging past instead of for the number of lives devastated or lost.
On a personal level, also recognize that the win that can bring you the most happiness comes from seeking the win-win in your circumstances rather than seeking superiority or competition. Choose to take actions to create the biggest win possible for you and therefore, all involved.
The actions you take could be the actions you become known for, so choose wisely.
Make it a point to be conscious of your motive(s) during this 2013 Mars in Leo cycle. Choose actions aligned with love and self-fulfillment rather than from anger and ego-gratification so you can make joy, not war.
