NOTE: I’ve been near obsession about world events of the last few months. To that point, this essay is one of a few I’ve been working on intended to examine current world events and to provide insights and possible outcomes to the situation. This essay and a few more will be available here on the blog during April 2014, but for current events information beyond April 2014, sign up for the Life By Soul Mailing List or follow Life By Soul at Google+ as the Current Events presentations will be available through Google Hangouts and YouTube in upcoming months.
In this particular matter of Ukraine and Russia, there’s a great deal of Uranus energy involved in this matter, which gives it quite a series of unpredictable twists and turns. That said, I wanted to share some perspective about what is happening, and these essays will hopefully follow through on that intention.
I studied the natal charts of Ukraine (24.August.1991, 5:31p, Kiev,UA); Russia (25.December.1991, 5:22p, Moscow, RU); Vladimir Putin (07.October.1952, 9:30a, St. Petersburg, RU); NATO (24.August.1949, 11:42a, Washington DC); the United States (Gemini AC – 04.July.1776, 2:13a, Philadelphia, PA), and the Crimean Referendum (start of voting 16.March.2014, 7:00a, Crimea and the end of voting 17.March.2014 12:00a) using my Life By Soul System to summarize this subject. Please note that I use a tight 3° orb for ALL aspects and transits.
To start, what I see in its chart with Uranus in Capricorn as the lead planet in 1st House and Mars in Virgo in 8th House, Ukraine as a nation was built on the intention of being independent from USSR. Period. It achieved that goal and followed through on their commitment to establish themselves (its Neptune conjunct its Juno conjunct its North Node in Capricorn in 1st), yet once it achieved its dream of independence and sovereignty, it had no clear or common goal beyond that – its leadership could never agree on how to move beyond that first goal. As result, it quickly came to light that the leadership was not on the same page and that Ukraine would always be challenged in fulfilling its potential to date (Chiron in Leo in 7th House opposite its Saturn Retrograde in Aquarius in 1st).
Russia was reestablished as its own sovereign nation post-USSR about four months after Ukraine. The key to note is that though Russia is a proud nation that holds a great deal of pride in being seen as a world leader (Leo AC), at its core, its goal is to make sure its people have what they need to live a stable, secure, and functional day-to-day lifestyle (Capricorn 3 Sun in 6th, Virgo 6 Moon in 2nd) and to do so with as much freedom and wisdom as possible (Vertex conjunct Mars in Sagittarius in 5th).
Since the Russian people aren’t really concerned with anything that does not directly affect their daily well-being, it is important to note that Ukraine is appealing to Russia because Ukraine has resources beneficial to them. It’s all about sustaining or increasing their standard of living. That’s Russia’s fundamental agenda – a point that NATO and The United States are eager to overlook.
What’s interesting here is that with that Sagittarius Vertex-Mars conjunction, what Russia needs often comes to it with very little action on Russia’s part. In fact, Russia usually only needs to take the steps to complete the matter once others begin it.
Yet Russia’s fundamental agenda is not Putin’s fundamental agenda. Though Putin is indeed an excellent representative of his people and has put Russia’s interests first generally speaking (true to his diplomatically analytical Libra 7 Sun), Putin’s challenge is that he has quite a Napoleon complex (Leo MC, Pluto in Leo in 10th). The Russian people love him because he projects an air of confidence and radiance that reflects their perception of themselves as a nation (his Leo on MC to their Leo on AC – he appears to be a reflection of them), and they are supportive of him as long as he has their lifestyle sustenance at heart. However, Putin has a powerful mystique about him (Scorpio AC), which somewhat covers an emotional desire on his part for power and influence if not outright control (Gemini 8 Moon in 8th). This is where things get complicated for everyone involved.
1) The Ukraine has become the bridge between Europe and Russia, and is a major telecommunications and alternative energy hub for the region. Despite this, Ukraine is also heavily dependent on Russia for natural gas, as is Europe. Many of the natural gas pipelines that run through Ukraine also supply Europe with the resource. However, Ukraine is behind on its payments to Russia for its gas usage, and combined with the political climate, Russia sees that it is prime time to collect. Ukraine’s bankruptcy is imminent, and reuniting with Russia would be one logical solution to their financial woes. The reunification of Ukraine with Russia actually makes sense – in a positive way.
2) the Crimean Referendum was legitimately decisive. The chart for this event – both at the beginning and end of the voting period – shows that the people of that region really did want to be reunited with Russia and that their annexation was rather unavoidable. The transiting Cardinal T-Square of Jupiter in Cancer, Uranus in Aries, and Pluto in Capricorn (in the referendum’s 5th, 1st, and 11th houses respectively) shows that Crimea made its choices to return to Russia on its own. And with Mars Retrograde in Libra conjunct North Node in Libra in the 7th house of the referendum, it is clear that Crimea took action toward what it believed would be the best partner for its balance and peaceful well-being through the referendum.
From what I can see in the chart comparisons (specifically Ukraine’s Uranus conjunct Russia’s North Node), this will be quite an experience for Russia as it will be a rather unconventional journey. Ukraine will put up a good but strange fight, but will probably end up reunited with Russia. And despite all efforts to the contrary, this reunion truly is in the best interests of both Ukraine and Russia – Ukraine already knows this.
The reason why there has been so much resistance to this reunion to date is because 1) some of the Ukrainian people are holding onto the grand delusion that they can resolve their irreconcilable differences to create a clear vision and a strong and unified leadership for their nation (which is highly unlikely as neither has never been the case for Ukraine), and 2) they feel obligated to ‘fight’ to remain independent due to the support and encouragement from NATO and the United States for them to remain independent.
The Western involvement is actually the potential tragedy in this matter, especially for the United States.
The United States is the loudest and most influential voice and presence in support of Ukraine, which is why I chose them to focus on. It is also still considered a major player in world diplomacy as of now, but from what I can see that is likely to change as result of this matter. That is what makes this matter so profound at this time.
The challenge for the United States is that other than diplomacy and maintaining strategic/political alliance, there is no direct benefit to the U.S. by Ukraine remaining independent, and there is certainly no benefit to Ukraine as they will continue to fall under their own lack of solid infrastructure. The U.S. refuses to see that Ukraine really is better off going back to Russia…
…which brings us to the big problem for the United States. Because the U.S. is failing to see the reality of the situation, they will continue to make threats and sanctions only to find their efforts have no effect on the outcome. By continuing to resurrect the Cold War mindset against Russia in order to sustain Ukraine’s independence, the United States is actually damaging its own diplomatic credibility. By pursuing this path, if the Ukraine reunifies with Russia, the U.S. will appear to have lost its influence on the world stage, and other countries (especially its NATO allies) are likely to begin second-guessing the strength of the United States and probably will give thoughtful pause to using their alliance with them in matters moving forward.
Putin has played the United States into a corner without actually having to do much himself, and this really works well for him. It strengthens Russia’s position in the world in that Russia does not concede to the Western threats AND Russia doesn’t force Ukraine’s hand as much of the conflict within Ukraine has always been there regardless of Russia’s involvement. The difference is that now, the rest of the world knows it’s there, too. All Putin has had to do was/is wait patiently for the government of Ukraine to tip over under the weight of its own lofty expectations and promises for its people that it could not fulfill.
The challenge for Putin is that while the people of Russia support the annexation of Ukraine into the Russian nation, what shows up in the Russian chart is that people will not be supportive of Putin seeking to grab control of additional former Soviet states. Despite the support of bringing Ukraine back into the fold, the majority of the Russian people do NOT want to recreate the Soviet Union – the nation of Russia via its natal chart does not want that. Russia would rather establish powerful global partnerships through strong and creative diplomacy (Russia’s Venus conjunct Pluto in Scorpio in 5th). If Putin pursues that line of action, it is very likely he will lose the support of the Russian people in doing so, and Putin could lose all of his political and diplomatic gain as result. It could also set him on track to lose his position and power within Russia as well.
However, Putin taking those Napoleonic steps would be the ONLY thing that would restore political and diplomatic credibility to the United States and its NATO allies that have been urging Ukraine to remain independent. This is because the only justification for the West’s actions is fear that Putin will try to claim more than just Ukraine. If Putin proves them right, then it will decisively tip the scales back into the U.S. favor…but only if Putin gets greedy. Otherwise, the United States may damage if it hasn’t already damaged its political and diplomatic credibility beyond repair.
It will be very interesting to see how this situation develops over the next few weeks, especially with Full Moon-Total Eclipse early on 15th April 2014 and Mars in Libra entering orb of the long-standing Cardinal T-Square on 16th April to form the Cardinal Grand Cross that lasts through the end of the month.
- Ukraine’s Uranus and Neptune are within orb of the Cardinal Grand Cross. Both planets are in conjunction with transiting Pluto in Capricorn, indicating that Ukraine is bringing some unexpected determination and idealistic notions to the mix.
- Russia’s Uranus is within orb of the Cardinal Grand Cross, also conjunct transiting Pluto in Capricorn. This indicates that Russia has a few unexpected moves of its own, and the Grand Cross may reveal it has a very systematic approach to this matter, or it may simply be that Russia doesn’t show up as others expect them to in this matter. Russia may be revealed to be much more practical and solution-oriented than most would think.
- Both Russia and Ukraine’s afore-mentioned planets are square the transiting Uranus in Aries and Mars in Libra, which would normally inspire people to move in the direction of independence and individuality and justice…but with transiting Jupiter in Cancer opposing, this case could unexpectedly move in the direction of unity and a nurturing and protective Oneness.
- Putin’s Sun is within orb of the Cardinal Grand Cross. His Libra 7 Sun is conjunct the approaching Mars Retrograde in Libra, indicating that his time for action will likely come before the end of April 2014. The transiting Uranus in Aries will be opposite his Sun and transiting Mars, bringing balance to the matter in that he won’t really be able to control the outcome. Putin will likely be in reaction to whatever Ukraine chooses to do.
- That said, it is likely that Ukraine comes to a re-unification with Russia by its own choosing. It won’t be an easy or comfortable fit at first due to the challenges of transiting Jupiter in Cancer and Pluto in Capricorn, and it will change the political-diplomatic landscape worldwide.
- The United States’ Sun and Saturn are within orb of the Cardinal Grand Cross. Its Cancer 5 Sun will be conjunct transiting Jupiter in Cancer and opposite transiting Pluto in Capricorn, revealing its Light protected through unification (NATO) being balanced by current diplomatic-political structures collapsing and clearing away, forcing the U.S. to seek a different way to shine its Light or a different direction to shine it. The U.S. Libra Saturn will be conjunct transiting Mars Retrograde in Libra, indicating actions (if not a fight) for justice and fairness – a diplomatic fight that may not end up being so hands-off after all. The transiting Uranus in Aries again will reveal unexpected twists in the matter that may leave the U.S. in very unfamiliar territory.
- NATO is not directly affected by the Cardinal Grand Cross in conjunction, opposition, or square. However, it may be affected by the outcome. If Russia cuts off natural gas supply to Europe as result of the conflict in/with Ukraine, then Europe will need that resource from elsewhere. That is where the United States may benefit…but only if they can supply Europe with the natural gas it needs, which brings the U.S. into a whole other complicated ball of wax on its own turf – an environmental and energy efficiency issue that comes at a diplomatic cost if the Ukraine reunifies with Russia. The United States may have a big commitment to fulfill to its NATO allies – one it may not be able to fulfill without compromising its own principles and infrastructure.
The world is changing in a big way. As we are under the influence of an Aries 11 Sun, there is a great deal of action happening on the world community level as each nation is looking for its unique place and leadership role among its peers in the world. This is definitely one of the situations with the biggest impact on how the world will look moving forward, and I look forward to seeing how it changes the landscape.
Thanks for reading and sharing. Until next time…
