On 24th July, 2015, Mars entered the sign of Cancer at 6:33a PDT.
Mars is the action planet. Known as the “warrior” of the Zodiac and the ruler of Aries, Mars is at least assertive and at most aggressive or violent, and needs to be active in order to keep its wits about it. Sitting still and being quiet is NOT a very Martian thing to do.
Cancer is a cardinal water sign, so it is inclined to take emotional initiative. Known as the “mommy” sign – the sign of emotional nurturing and encouragement – Cancer reveals what has us feel emotionally safe, stable, and secure. Cancer’s ruler is the Moon which moves very quickly through the Zodiac. In fact, the Moon moves through all 12 signs of the Zodiac within a 4.5 week Sun period!
In this case of Mars in Cancer, Mars only amplifies Cancer’s natural initiative to act on its emotional inclinations, while Cancer gives Mars an emotion-based trigger for its actions. Mars in Cancer may encourage us to act upon our emotional self-interests, not so concerned about the feelings of others unless they are same or similar to their own.
That said, this 2015 Mars in Cancer is one under which people’s actions will reveal their true feelings about various matters…and the after-effects of their emotion-driven actions will challenge them to be held accountable and responsible for what they feel.
And yes, “them” includes you.
Many of us have become very good at intellectually rationalizing our actions or taking action based upon logical or practical reasoning, especially with Mars under the sign of Gemini. But not many of us consciously act upon our emotions – we’re often told that it is immature, impulsive, or irrational to do so. Acting upon our emotions often elicits responses of “grow up” from others around us.
People don’t often realize that “grow up” is often interpreted as “suppress your emotions”, and it actually stunts our emotional growth and maturity to suppress our emotional responses! By holding it back our true feelings instead of letting them out, we actually deny ourselves and others clear experiential understanding of where we need to grow up in our lives. Revealing our immature emotional responses helps us recognize where we need to do the most work in maturing emotionally. This maturing process also includes honesty, authenticity, acceptance, and most important of all, forgiveness.
When we pretend to feel a way we don’t or pretend to believe in something we don’t truly believe in, we betray ourselves and others. This emotional self-betrayal is the first sign of emotional immaturity –not allowing ourselves to be emotionally honest for fear of being judged or criticized or punished for revealing our immaturity.
Yet during this 2015 Mars in Cancer, we are likely to witness a great transition – one in which people’s immature emotional responses are finally surfacing and being met with clear directives in how to mature. It will not be uncommon over the next 6 weeks for individuals to be confronted with realizations that their feelings may be valid, but they no longer have the support they once did to encourage or expand upon them. In order to continue with their (outdated) emotional beliefs, they may need to take full responsibility for their emotional truth and be willing to stand without the support they once had OR they may need to reassess their emotional truth, possibly choosing a new or different path for themselves.
And yes, “they” also means you.
This call to emotional maturity will be loudest at 10:33a PDT on 1st July when the Moon in Capricorn makes exact opposition to Mars in Cancer (4.81°) on its way to its maximum fullness in exact opposition the Cancer Sun as the 2015 Capricorn Full Moon at 7:20p PDT (9.92°). This is a strong indication of a VERY emotionally charged day.
However, what may make this day and this entire Mars in Cancer period a bit easier to bear is that Chiron in Pisces began a retrograde period only 2 hours before Mars entered Cancer (at 4:36a PDT). It’s almost as if the Universe knew that Mars in Cancer would need to enter the world under healing conditions for its assertive actions to have an ultimately positive effect.
Chiron in Pisces by its nature is already on a mission to bring healing to long-held emotional-spiritual wounds. As the ruler of Virgo (the sign opposite Pisces), Chiron is known as the “wounded healer” – able to solve problems, fix what is broken, and heal what is wounded because it is wounded there itself. It heals from its own experiences. Pisces is the sign of unconditional Love and Oneness, selflessly serving others with compassionate care. Yet with Pisces Chiron in retrograde motion as of 4:36a PDT on 24th June (until 28th November 2015), it takes this healing thing one step further – it brings empathy.
Chiron Retrograde in Pisces brings an opportunity for people to feel what others feel. This is paramount as it helps bring a deeper and more powerful understanding of the pain and suffering others are experiencing. Empathy is no longer an ideology under Chiron Retrograde in Pisces – it becomes a practice grounded in real experience because there is open and honest emotion to feel and express. This energy plays a crucial role in how we deal with Mars in Cancer’s actions over the next 6 weeks.
We already see signs of this emotional empathy beginning to manifest, but its soothing effects will strengthen. From 10-16 July 2015, the Cancer Sun makes trine aspect to Chiron Retrograde in Pisces (most exact on 13th July at 7:53p PDT) and any actions born of anger, shame, guilt, resentment, or fear will reveal exactly what is cultivating the roots and cores of the long-held emotional wounds which now need empathic forgiveness and healing.
The 10-day period of 21-30 July 2015 which follows a few days later will bring the powerful actions or events needed to begin healing these fully exposed wounds in earnest. The trine aspect of Cancer Mars and Pisces Chiron Retrograde will be most exact on 1:06a PDT on 26th July. As this trine approaches exactness, it is part of what could potentially be a VERY powerful Lunar Grand Trine that is most exact at 12 noon PDT on 25th July (20-21°). Events and interactions which occur on this day could bring major opportunities for healing to come forth on both the personal and collective levels of our daily lives.
There is such great potential for healing on its way, and we can already feel it coming now that Mars has entered Cancer and Chiron in Pisces has begun its retrograde. Recent and current events may be emotionally confronting and volatile, yet they also awaken a powerful sense that some things that have hurt us for a very long time are now being given opportunities to truly and finally be healed.
Thanks for reading and sharing Signs and Numbers. Until next post…
