We experience our first Full Moon of 2017 as the Moon reaches maximum full phase in the sign of Cancer opposite the Capricorn 11 Sun at 3:34a PST (22.45°) on 12th January 2017. When it does (and for the three days before and after), it brings forth a powerful emotional and intuitive awareness like no other we’ve experienced in a long time.
First of all, the Capricorn 11 Sun is making us aware of our community’s social and societal goals and intentions. Yes, this time of year usually has us focused upon our individual goals. However, under the numerological 11 universal month energy and the 1 universal year energy there is an innate awareness that our individual goals and our initiative actions are tied into the beginnings of something larger and more collaborative than ourselves alone.
This energy is being reflected by the Cancer Moon, who’s emotional energy is amplified because the Moon is in its sign of rulership – it’s at home emotionally nurturing and protecting itself and its loved ones. As the Sun’s light is reflected, the Cancer Moon reminds us that it’s great to have goals, but it’s greater when those goals are supported by and encouraged with love. Without love, the achievements and accomplishments matter far, far less.
This is especially the case with this 2017 Cancer Full Moon. Not only is this the usual Sun-Moon opposition, this opposition connects with a Jupiter in Libra – Uranus + Ceres in Aries opposition to form a Cardinal Grand Square! This configuration actually adds a few essential layers of interpretation to this Full Moon experience:
- Jupiter in Libra is bringing a greater awareness of balance, equality, fairness, justice, and peace to our interactions, especially our one-on-one interactions of all kinds. Because we have a heightened awareness, we also have a heightened awareness of where these qualities are NOT present in our relationships and partnerships of all kinds.
- Uranus in Aries is doing two things. It is inspiring individual rebellion against social norms, and it is inspiring rebellious collaboration against social norms. It is making us more aware of our individuality and autonomy within our communities and social networks. (In other words, we don’t have to do it just because everyone else is.)
- Ceres in Aries is making individuals aware of their personal values – their own morals and ethics, independent of their communities and social circles. It is also inspiring people to take action to acquire and preserve the resources which enable their own personal lifestyles rather than being concerned about if it meets someone else’s standards or not.
- Jupiter opposite both Uranus and Ceres is making many people aware of the imbalance of lifestyles (class inequalities, racial inequalities, gender inequalities) within our societies. More and more people are taking a stand to balance these. They are demanding fair compensation for past wrongs and balance for present inequalities. They are demanding justice.
- Jupiter in Libra, Uranus and Ceres in Aries are all in square aspect to both the Capricorn 11 Sun and Cancer Moon, creating productive tension and a stabilized initiative force. This is a combination upon which progress can be made and built upon. Individual members of the community will be coming to the table with their unique perceptions and objectives, enabling a collaborative social and societal agenda to emerge, with their rebellious actions paving the way and setting the tone for the changes desired, the emotional nurturing and support of those acts of social intention and/or rebellion encouraging forward progress, and the collective expectations for social and societal justice and equality being made clear to those in power every step of the way.
- All of this is occurring on a 5 universal day of change and evolution, which only enhances the fact that this is a day where the energies of progress are asserting their leadership, making their message of intention clearly known through their actions – the status quo and the current course is unacceptable.
Of course, there are two more interesting transits occurring on this day.
There is also a Saturn-Juno conjunction in Sagittarius at the time the Moon is at maximum phase, revealing a commitment to and focus on the seeking, finding, and expanding truth as the desired experience of life at this time. This is not a time for lies and deception – that way of thinking and communicating simply will not carry any credibility at this time.
- In sextile to Libra Jupiter, this conjunction reveals a focused and intentional commitment to not only create the appearance of fairness and justice, but to actually bring the experience of fairness and justice into manifestation and to expand it for all. There is an authoritative presence of accountability through this transit which will not allow those creating the imbalances to go without forward without being held responsible for their unjust logic or behaviors.
- In trine to Aries Uranus and Ceres, this conjunction reveals a commitment to give everyone the freedom to experience authentic self—expression in whichever ways align with their personal values. This also reveals a commitment to a community in which all have the freedom to pursue their goals in whichever ways they see fit. That same authoritative presence of accountability will not allow those curtailing those freedoms to go without forward without being held responsible for their actions/behaviors.
The Cancer Full Moon also makes trine aspect to Chiron in Pisces at the time the Moon reaches max phase. This is important because it reveals the ability emotion has to both hurt and heal at this time. Those who feel emotionally nurtured or supported by the expression of these energies will experience a sense of emotional-spiritual healing, while those who feel abandoned or neglected by the expressions of these energies will feel emotionally and/or spiritually wounded.
So, how do you get to make the most of this 2017 Cancer Full Moon+Cardinal Grand Square energy?
Take initiative. Make your individual identity, values, and goals/intentions/objectives known by taking action to move them forward. Let your emotions inspire you into action. Find your courage to be a leader by acting upon your emotional truth.
This is not a time for waiting for someone else to care – this is a time for making sure others know that YOU care…and that you love and care about yourself and your loved ones enough to take a stand for what you know to be morally and ethically right and true within and from your heart and soul.
Be willing to stand alone for the life you want to live, and you may find that you aren’t alone after all. In fact, there may be more of you standing with and for yourselves and each other than you ever could have expected or believed.
