We have the first Solar Eclipse of 2017 as we experience the 2017 Pisces New Moon at 6:58a PST on Sunday, 26th February 2017 (8.20°). This is an annular “Ring of Fire” eclipse that will be visible in our planet’s southern hemisphere – southwest Africa, the southernmost parts of South America, and all of Antarctica will be able to witness this eclipse.
This 2017 Pisces New Moon-Solar Eclipse comes at a very interesting time.
Pisces is a mutable water sign which depends on its ability to “go with the flow”. This is because 1) it is highly empathic, which makes it very sensitive to the emotions and energies of others as well as its own, and 2) because it needs to be able to flow…away from anything or anyone that make sit feel something it doesn’t want to feel. For many Pisces natives, they are not only feeling their own emotions and intuitions – they are feeling those of others as well.
Therefore, when the emotional-intuitive energies become too overwhelming or simply too intense to bear, Pisces natives or those with strong Pisces influences are apt to seek an escape. They run away from the emotions they feel OR if they can’t avoid or escape their feelings, they blame others by playing victim to those who are “making them feel things they don’t want to feel”. Occasionally, Pisces people will play martyr to “save others” from emotional or intuitive pain, often framing their self-sacrifice in the guise of selfless service when what they’re really doing is avoiding dealing with their own emotional-intuitive pain.
To those victim-martyr-escapist points, the 2017 Pisces New Moon-Solar Eclipse occurs about 15 hours after Mercury enters the sign of Pisces, and only 4 hours before that Pisces Mercury makes its first transit – a square with Black Moon Lilith in Sagittarius (1.43°). This indicates a powerful desire for truth to be known being at odds with communications intended to shield and protect yourself or others from intense emotional-intuitive pain.
Another transit within 3° orb at the time the New Moon-Eclipse is most exact is Saturn in Sagittarius square Chiron in Pisces. Though it is not an exact transit on this day, it does increase the pressure for truth to be confronted and dealt with if progress is to be made, despite the urge to run away and hide from what is coming forth to avoid the emotional-intuitive pain that is likely to surface.
The 2017 Pisces New Moon-Solar Eclipse also occurs about 9.5 hours before an exact Mars conjunction with Uranus in Aries (22.00°). This conjunction is NOT to be taken lightly. This is a strong indicator of communities taking initiative action to make their presence and perspectives known. It’s also an indicator that if those who are supposed to do the job won’t do it because they’re more interested in escaping emotional-spiritual pain, guilt, or shame, other people will take matters into their own hands – they will take the actions they were waiting on the “escapees” to take. A major event could occur on this day, though it’s more likely a future event could be born of what seem to be small or “insignificant” acts or revelations occurring on this day.
That said, this 2017 Pisces New Moon-Solar Eclipse’s role is providing the emotional-intuitive inspiration for such bold collective actions to occur. This is a time in which the painful feelings of everyone involved will come to light. This means your own painful feelings may surface as well and/or as result.
During a solar eclipse, the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, obstructing the Sun’s light. If we take that physical action and translate that into energetic terms, the revelation of truth by the Sun’s light is obstructed by excessive emotional expression of the Moon’s body. Emotions are getting in the way of the truth of what is really going on being revealed.
What’s great about an eclipse, though, is that the obstruction is only temporary. And what’s even better is that it proves the old saying, “You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone”. The most important thing to remember about this 2017 Pisces New Moon-Solar Eclipse day is that painful emotional truths will be surfacing on a multitude of levels – personal and professional. If you have a tendency to run and hide from others or yourself, or to blame and shame others for making you feel things, or to protect everyone else’s emotions before you protect your own, NOW is the time to face what you’ve been most afraid of and begin healing your emotional-intuitive-spiritual wounds for reals…and for good.
Fire and water combine to create steam. Often, we get caught up in the fog that steam creates, or we use that fog as an excuse for not moving forward. Yet it’s important to remember that steam is also a wonderful agent for propulsion – for moving things forward. If we can find the courage to move forward even if we can’t see exactly where we’re going – if we can trust our intuitions to forge ahead through the steam and darkness of the eclipse, we may find that when the Sin’s light reemerges and the fog clears, we are right on track and moving forward faster and clearer than ever.
