Mars entered the sign of Libra at 11:29a PDT on Sunday, 22nd October 2017. This shifted the motivation of our intentions and actions away from practical and purposeful deeds to efforts to establish and maintain balance, equity, fairness, and justice in our relationships with each other and in the matters of our lives.
Mars is the planet of action, and in the sign of Libra, actions are being taken to establish and/or maintain balance & peace in relationships and matters-at-hand, OR to correct injustices & inequities in relationships or matters-at-hand. This is an assertive, sometimes even aggressive energy – not for those who want to be passive or submissive, which Libra is sometimes inclined to be in order to maintain relational peace and calm. This 2017 Mars in Libra will push people out of their comfort zones and into positions in which actions are required if they’re going to maintain a sense of confidence and strength in their connections and interactions with others, especially when they are striving to establish fair and balanced conditions.
The thing is… fairness and balance isn’t necessarily what will be achieved over these next seven weeks. Justice is the stronger motivation under this 2017 Mars in Libra, and that means the righting of perceived wrongs. The challenge here is that we are living in a time in which the polarizations of our communities and cultures are so pronounced, there are only two sides to each story. Many people have forgotten how to consider both sides of a matter objectively. There is little intellectual or logical detachment – only fierce attachment to their perspectives and their emotional investments in the “way things should be” according to their world view (or the world view they choose to subscribe to). In most people’s minds at this moment in time, justice means getting things their way and having their beliefs and feelings validated. People want to be told they are “right” while the other side is “wrong”.
The interesting thing is that the justice that actually comes may not be perceived as “justice for all”. That’s because there seems to be a belief that when one party is held accountable, the other party must be held accountable for something as well. But that way of thinking only applies when both sides have, indeed, both violated rules, laws, and/or agreed-upon terms of agreement or engagement.
That said, the effects of this 2017 Mars in Libra may end up being far more fair and balanced than anyone could expect, and those taking a side in any disagreement would be wise to remember that they may be subject to the very same “justice” their opponents may be facing. This doesn’t only apply to our lives on a public community, national, or global scale – this also applies to our personal and private lives.
- Where and how do you feel like you have been or are being wronged in your life?
- Where do you believe you are being unfairly held accountable?
- Where are you seeking justice in a matter in your own personal life, especially in your relationships or partnerships of any kind?
This 2017 Mars in Libra is an excellent time to take actions to encourage setting the record straight, but it’s also time for others to do the same. Advocating for yourself and for justice to be served to your benefit doesn’t necessarily mean you’re the innocent party. This will be especially difficult to experience and come into understanding of around 11th November when Mars makes quincunx transit with Neptune Retrograde in Pisces, shattering the ideal that you’re innocent because you’re trying to prove others guilty, and around 19th November when Mars makes square transit with Pluto in Capricorn, and societal structures and powers in place may challenge people’s ability to act in the name of justice by attempting to hold people accountable to the standards of the status quo (for better or worse).
One thing is for certain – the biggest loser of this 2017 Mars in Libra period will be hypocrisy. Anyone taking actions to hold others accountable without expecting to be held accountable for their own unjust or unfair practices may be in for a rather rude awakening. Yet those who are willing to own up to their parts in wrongdoing or poor judgment will find themselves coming out of these next few weeks stronger and more personally empowered and confident than ever. The winners of the next seven weeks will be those who admit to and own up to their wrongdoings and who make genuine efforts to right their wrongs with the other parties involved.
Justice will be served – a.k.a. – Mars will be in Libra – now through 9th December 2017.
