Mars entered the sign of Capricorn at 9:40a PDT on Saturday, 17th March 2018, giving our actions direction and purpose… or at least giving us the determination to figure out said direction and purpose in order to focus our actions. Intention setting is the name of the game, and under Capricorn, Mars gets serious about this aim.
Capricorn is cardinal earth energy, so it shares the same initiative tendencies as Mars’ home sign, Aries. Capricorn begins the Winter season, while Aries begins the Spring season and the Tropical Zodiac/Solar New Year. This gives this 2018 Mars in Capricorn a bit of a retroactive energy, as if to say “Oh yeah! We forgot to set a goal!” and encourages us to get clear about what we’re taking action to initiate. Those of us who actually took the time to set clear goals and intentions through the Winter season may find this next couple of months to be tremendously initiative and progressive on a personal level. However, those who have not already set intentions may find themselves rushing to catch-up to the energy of the moment.
It’s also a pretty amazing synchronistic moment that the Aries Sun Period begins only 3 days after Mars enters its cardinal counterpoint. With all of this cardinal (initiative & intentional) energy, this is going to be a Mars in Capricorn period to remember.
Yet Capricorn and Aries’ energies are technically square to each other – they challenge each other, despite sharing a modality. Capricorn sets intentions and goals, while Aries takes brings those intentions and goals to life using initiative action to begin moving those intentions or goals forward.
So, in this 2018 scenario, Capricorn challenges Mars to align its initiative and individual action(s) with an intention or goal. There cannot simply be action taken to just for the sake of doing something – it needs to have a focal point to be effective. Otherwise, you may be doing more destruction than construction or production.
Meanwhile, Mars challenges Capricorn to set clear goals and to set clear intentions behind its goals. It’s not enough to have a goal – it’s important to understand why you’ve set the goal. As you take action in your life, you may find your actions result in confusion, damage, or emotional (or physical?!?) pain – these results would be indicators that your intentions behind your actions may not be as clear as they could be or need to be (depending on what you’re doing) OR that your actions are not definitively aligned with your intentions. However, you may also find your actions are initiating and clarifying your direction, creating momentum, and urging you forward – these results would be indicators that your intentions behind your actions are clear and your actions are aligned with them.
There is also the possibility that if you are not clear what your intention is, you may discover it as you examine your own actions. Allow the choices you’re currently making and the actions you’re currently taking to reveal to you what your intentions actually are. By working in reverse, you may discover that the clarity you’ve been looking for is closer to your consciousness than you realize. You may also realize how you may be acting out of alignment with what you truly (in your heart and soul) want to serve, accomplish, or achieve.
The most significant transit in this 2018 Mars in Capricorn period may be the Mars-+Saturn conjunction that is most exact on 2nd April (8.75°). This is because Saturn is the ruling planet of Capricorn, and in its home sign, it is an extremely strong presence of focus and discipline, encouraging you to take responsibility for setting your goals and holding you accountable and responsible for acting in (or out) of alignment with them. When in conjunction aspect with Mars, Saturn may feel as if it is forcing you to take you actions more seriously. For some of us, this may feel as if we are being held back or held down, but in reality, we are being held accountable. For others of us, this may feel as if we are being supported, but in reality, we are really being rewarded for honoring our intentions.
This Mars+Saturn conjunction will be opposite Cancer White Moon Selene and square the Aries 6 Sun on the 2nd April as well, which forms a Solar T-Square configuration. The presence of Selene awakens a desire for emotional nurturing, caring, and peace which balances the ambition of the Capricorn Mars and Saturn elements. This configuration produces conditions which remind us that our intentions and goals must fulfill us not only to professional and/or social ends, but also our private and/or personal ends. Goals which cause us to ignore our emotional and intuitive needs only serve to make us more insensitive to whether or not our goals are truly in alignment with our heart/soul’s desires. There must be balance, and thanks to the Aries 6 Sun bringing a heightened illumination of our daily and greater purposes, there will be opportunities to discern whether or not we are honoring both our human ambitions and our transcendental Oneness.
Other 2018 Mars in Capricorn transits include a square with the Aries 5 Sun on 24th March (3.97°) which challenges us to notice how our actions may not be focused or clear in their intention, and the chaos which may be ensuing in and around our lives as result of that lack of focus and clarity; a square with Mercury on 4th April (9.85°) which will challenge us to align our actions with our words; a trine with Taurus Venus on 11th April (13.58°) which will encourage us to attend to the 1-on-1 relationships which also act as resources for us; and a sextile with Pisces Neptune on 14th April (15.40°) which will support us in making sure our actions are aligned not only with our goals, but also with our visions of what is possible through service to others.
This will be a very active and responsive frame of time – not only because we are being called to be clear in our intentions and the motives behind our actions for ourselves in our own lives, but because we will experience the Universe and others as extensions of Universal co-creation responding to our intentions and actions. We will also be called to respond to others’ actions and intentions, and we each and all will get to decide if and how we choose to respond.
Intention is the key ingredient in everything we each and all are being called to take action in right now. So ask yourself under the influence of this 2018 Mars in Capricorn, what is your goal, and what is the intention behind your goal? What are you really striving for?
Because you will get what you ask for and act upon, even if you’re not aware you’re asking for it or acting upon it.
