The 2021 Taurus Full Moon reaches its maximum phase at 12:57a PST on Friday 19th November 2021 (27.47°). This Full Moon would be quite powerful on its own merits, but it’s supercharged by the fact that it’s also a Partial Lunar Eclipse starting at 1:03a PST – the first of two remaining eclipses for the widely-used Gregorian calendar year of 2021.
Eclipses are powerful because their physical process explains much of what is happening energetically during their durations. In a Lunar Eclipse, the Earth blocks the Moon’s reflection of the Sun’s light. In this 2021 Taurus Full Moon phase’s case, the Earth only partially blocks the Scorpio Sun’s reflection, meaning the world’s matters will obscure part of the reflection, as if to prevent all of “how the world works” from being brought to Light. We won’t be having all of our deepest and most secret emotional truths exposed for all the world to see… but we will have enough matters exposed to shake us up enough to reassess what we personally and collectively value most in our lives at this time. This 2021 Taurus Full Moon Lunar Eclipse is a call to reprioritize our values, our lifestyles and actual lives as result of the emotional and spiritual transformations our communities and societies are undergoing, as well as the transformations those of us within them are experiencing for ourselves.
Eclipses always occur close to the Lunar Nodes, which are currently in Gemini and Sagittarius. The Nodes will officially ingress into Taurus and Gemini in mid-January, so this and the Sagittarius New Moon + Total Solar Eclipse on 4th December are the last eclipses of the current Gemini-Sagittarius nodal cycle. Since this 2021 Taurus Full Moon + Partial Lunar Eclipse is a bit off-cycle, think of it as a preview of coming events, or in this case, a preview of coming transformations.
Transformations aren’t simple change. Transformation is the process of changing from one form into an entirely different form. Think of it like dying in order to either be born or born again. I often refer to the transformation process as the process a caterpillar goes through in order to become a butterfly. The caterpillar spins its chrysalis around itself, dissolves into goo, the goo somehow knows how to form a butterfly, and when the butterfly’s body and wings become too big to keep inside any longer, it breaks out of its chrysalis and takes flight into a new life in the air and on flowers, no longer inching along on the ground and low-lying plants.
Though we may not experience a literal death, many life changes will be coming (if they haven’t already come) as result of a personal or environmental transformation, and those symbolic “deaths” of our social identities or our personal lifestyles can be overwhelming for many. The emotions one feels throughout this process can prove to be quite a rollercoaster. Especially as our societal structures and institutions are undergoing significant transformations (or will be soon), many of us have fear of losing what little stability we do have in our lives. As result, there’s often a great deal of anxiety around being completely honest about our real feelings about our current circumstances and the events of the day, as we often believe that by sharing our deepest feelings and fears about the present and future, we may lose the people or things we care about most. That said, many of us can’t shake the feeling that something big’s coming sooner than later, and we’re waiting to see which personal, national, and/or global event sets off the chain reaction, tipping the scales from a fragile appearance of balance into monumental change and/or outright chaos.
Yet there’s also a great deal of hope now, too. As more of us have found ourselves willing to face our fears and dive into our emotional and spiritual depths, we’re now coming to terms with our feelings about the here and now and all the past choices and consequences which have led up to it. By diving into our shadows, we’re experiencing our own personal transformations… which are leading to more and more of us becoming ready to dive into our collective shadows for the better of all involved.
Scorpio is the sign of transformation. With its fixed water energy, still waters run deep. Very, very deep. That’s part of the tension happening right now. The deeper we dive, the more we realize just how far down our issues have rooted themselves – just how deeply the challenges we face are embedded in our psyches. These matters we’re facing now aren’t just a matter of lifestyle preference or difference – they’re a matter of our emotional investment in our secrets, our shadows, and keeping them hidden from view in order to maintain the status quo, in order to avoid having to not only change, but to actually transform.
The thing with transformation is that it’s a process of allowing one form to end or die in order for another form to begin or (re)birth. The thing here is that a new birth is being called for, yet there are too many trying to rebirth to the past.
Not only are we in the last days of the 2021 Scorpio Sun period, both the Moon and Sun have transits with Pluto (trine and sextile, respectively), the ruling (dwarf) planet of Scorpio. And to get into the numerology of this Full Moon + Lunar Eclipse, this will be occurring on an 8 Universal Day throughout the world. Eight’s energy is very similar to the energies of Pluto and Scorpio in that it brings themes of power and influence, control and manipulation, manifestation and transformation. This 8 Universal Day energy is supported by the 7 Universal Month energy, encouraging us to be reflective and thoughtful in the present moment, and 5 Universal Year energy which encourages us to embrace change by either adapting to the changes occurring around us or initiating changes within and around us. Take note of changes in power dynamics within your relationships to everyone and everything, and notice how these changes may be do to either you transforming and stepping more fully into your personal power, or you being on the receiving end of others’ transformations. There may actually be a bit (or a lot) of both experiences for each of us.
In fact, there’s so much Scorpio energy in play during this 2021 Taurus Full Moon Lunar Eclipse, we could forget it’s actually a Taurus Full Moon. Taurus is the sign of personal resources, values, morals and, well, survival. Its fixed earth energy helps us materially, financially, and physically support our self-identities. Most of us have lost the sense of stability, security, and safety our formerly comfortable situations, spaces, and routines provided. Whether we’re losing what we believed we had or gaining much more than we’ve ever had, changes to our lifestyle status quo are definitely happening and taking us on quite a ride.
The best way to manage this Taurus Full Moon Eclipse energy is to seek grounding and take stock. Start by acknowledging and express gratitude for whatever and whomever has a stable presence in your life right now, providing you with a solid point of reference for where you are in your life’s journey at this time. From there, whether it’s indulging in your favorite comfort foods, working out/exercising to get present to your body, walking barefoot in some dirt or mud, a clay mask on your face, or gardening or otherwise working with dirt – seek ways to reconnect with nature and the earth. Another way to focus is to use this time to get your financial records and bills in order. Make time to balance your records, set up payment or make payment arrangements to get everything in a place where you know exactly where you stand regarding your money and stuff. You can’t confidently use your resources if you don’t know what you have to work with. Get your affairs in order so you know what you have in order to make your next moves.
Full Moon phases are also powerful times for taking stock of what you’re ready to let go of. Whether it’s going through your closets and drawers for things you no longer use or need, or simply cleaning house (physically and/or emotionally), use these next couple weeks to let it all go. By clearing the old and outgrown resources and relationships out of your life, you make space for new, better-suited resources and relationships to come in. Make space for what fits for you now… and for what may come in in the future that you aren’t even aware of.
You can also use crystals and stones to help you ground energetically. Smoky Quartz, Carnelian, Jasper, Obsidian, and Petrified Wood are a few stones which can assist in supporting your Root Chakra and grounding, rooting energy. Carry them on your person or hold one or more of them as you meditate. If you don’t already have one you enjoy, you may want to find a grounding meditation online you can engage with.
All of this grounding and shoring up is in order to give you an energetic solid foundation to support you as you navigate the social and societal transformations that are in play, as well as the emotional and spiritual transformation you may be going through soon… if you’re not engaging with it or experiencing it already.
For more insights into the energy dynamics most active during this 2021 Taurus Full Moon + Partial Lunar Eclipse, here’s the breakdown of the astrological transits (3° orb):
Taurus Moon trine Capricorn Pluto (24-27°) – The Moon, reflecting the Sun’s light, finds us reassessing what we really need on a resource level to support our self-identities. We may feel emotionally insecure because we are feeling materially and financially insecure or uncertain. However, we may also be more aware that others aren’t as materially, financially, or physically healthy and secure as we are, which may find us questioning what we really – as a society – value most. Do our resource habits really reflect what we value, and are we truly emotionally invested in and aligned with our values?
Scorpio 7 Sun sextile Capricorn Pluto (24-27°) – The Sun shines its light onto our darkest emotional truths, helping us reassess what we are emotionally invested in keeping around, and what we are ready to release from our lives on a societal level.
Capricorn Pluto square Aries Eris Retrograde (23-24°) – The more that’s revealed about our societal structures and institutions, the more it’s clear they must be transformed… and the more individuals find themselves conflicted and lashing out toward others. The acting-out is the result of their self-awareness that they themselves may individually benefit from the parts which need to be transformed for the good of all.
Capricorn Venus trine Taurus Uranus Retrograde (12°) – With a clear purpose/intention/goal, a partnership/relationship has purpose; and with purpose, there is something solid to stand on as our social values evolve, making the changes we are al experiencing more tolerable for each of us to adjust to on an individual basis.
Capricorn Venus sextile Scorpio Mars (12-13°) – Emotion-driven action supports purpose-driven partnerships/relationships of all kinds. Acting from emotional and spiritual honesty helps us continue toward our goals.
Taurus Uranus Retrograde opposite Scorpio Mars (12-13°) – These emotion-driven actions also provide balance for navigating the changes coming for the social side of things. As groups, communities, organizations, and societies rethink their values in the light of the current day, there are emotions coming up deep from within us revealing our discomfort with any resistance we might have to the changes around us.
Scorpio Mercury trine Pisces Neptune Retrograde (20-21°) – Deep thoughts and deeper feelings + fantastic dreams and visions = belief in the possibility. However, there is a danger of delusion with this transit. Be careful to allow the vision to inspire you, yet don’t let it overtake your practical reality.
Scorpio Mercury square Aquarius Jupiter (21-24°) – There’s a positive narrative being shared in an effort to make it popular knowledge. Yet it would be wise to dive below the surface of any mass communications at this time to seek and find the deeper truth beneath the veneer being presented en masse.
Aquarius Jupiter sextile Aries Eris Retrograde (23-24°) – Increasing awareness of the turning tide in the way the majority of people are seeing our society and humanity-at-large leads to more individuals engaging in conflict and self-defense rather than self-reflection and collaboration. Yet this isn’t necessarily a bad thing as it has people engaged in the issues facing all of us today, not just waiting around for others to do something.
SEQUENCE: Aquarius Saturn semi-sextile Pisces Pallas Athena semi-sextile Aries Chiron Retrograde (8-9°) – Evolving societal structures and institutions leads to individuals becoming conscious of the emotional patterns of society, which leads to some reassessment of their own self-identities. The more we realize how much of us have simply chosen to “follow the rules” rather than question them, the more
Aquarius Saturn trine Gemini Ceres Retrograde (6-8°) – The fact that our societal structures and standards are evolving empowers individuals to shift their personal values and priorities as well. Most people only needed to make sure others are changing, too – that they’re not alone in wanting to ask different questions and seek different information and insights.
Gemini Ceres Retrograde sextile Aries Chiron Retrograde (6-8°) – The more you find yourself on the receiving end of others’ self-identity wounds and bear witness the values they choose to live by with and/or despite their wounds, the more you may find yourself assessing your own self-identity and
Gemini Ceres Retrograde square Pisces Pallas Athena (6-9°) – The more we question our own personal values, the more we may question our beliefs about the world around us. External events challenge us to reassess what we truly believe in.
(Sagittarius Vesta conjunct South Node) semi-sextile Capricorn Juno (1°) – There’s a dogged determination to expand on the past, which is leading to a committed effort to maintain the structural status quo on both the societal and global levels. This is in direct contrast to the energies of the other transits.
We will be feeling the energy of this 2021 Taurus Full Moon phase from Tuesday 16th November through Monday 22nd November.
However, we always feel the effects of an eclipse for approximately six months after its maximum, and because profound events often occur as result of eclipse energies, the effects of these next few days and weeks are certain to have an enduring effect on us all. Remember, transformation is a process, rarely a single event. Don’t think that just because nothing happens today that nothing profound is happening. Sometimes, it takes a while for us to see the seeds planted now come to fruition… or in the case of a Full Moon + Partial Lunar Eclipse, the clearing to be complete before new seeds can be planted under the Sagittarius New Moon + Total Solar Eclipse coming on 4th December.
Transformation is coming if it’s hasn’t already started for you. It’s the end of the old to begin the new. Get ready for quite a ride.
Thank you for reading and sharing Signs and Numbers. Until next post…
