The 2023 Virgo Full Moon reaches its maximum phase at 4:40a PST on Tuesday 7th March 2023 (16ᵒ 40’). As the sixth sign of the Zodiac, Virgo’s mutable earth energy has a stabilizing but not solid grounding presence. Though it’s an earth sign, Virgo’s energy is like mud – it can be a thick liquid or a soft clay-like glob, depending on how much water you add to it.
To that point, the 2023 Virgo Full Moon adds both water (emotion) and earth (physicality) to our current circumstances, reflecting the light of a Pisces Sun that already has us chest-deep in water. This Full Moon won’t bring much stability to the matters we’re dealing with now, but it will give us some much-needed substance. However, before we add Virgo’s mud into our abundance of water, let’s do a quick recap of Pisces energy to help us understand where we are at the time of this Virgo Full Moon’s maximum phase.
Pisces is the twelfth and final sign of the Zodiac, representing the end of the soul’s latest cycle through the ellipse before its next cycle begins in Aries with a greater consciousness of its place and role in All-That-Is. Pisces’ mutable water energy really gives us no other choice but to “go with the flow”, and if we’re going to try to chart our course, it’s best done by swimming with the current rather than against it. Of course, how you’re choosing to move depends on which current you find yourself swimming in as Pisces really can represent both the highest and the lowest of what we are capable of being in and for this world. Pisces provides us with opportunities to awaken to our interconnection with All-That-Is, and how we choose how we respond to that awakening makes all the difference.
In a general sense, the Pisces New Moon encouraged and amplified the Pisces Sun’s focus on empathy and compassion, honoring our individual and collective intuition. Since that New Moon, the 2023 Pisces Sun period has continued encouraging us to learn from each other no matter which station of life we may think we are, may realize we are, or are becoming, allowing our differences to become teaching/learning opportunities. However, coming into awareness of our interconnection with everyone and everything around us can be an awkward if not uncomfortable awakening because we may realize that something we thought was good, believed was serving a good purpose, or intended to be helpful may actually have done or may currently be doing more harm than good to someone or something else…
…all of which introduces us to the “mud” of this 2023 Virgo Full Moon phase. This Full Moon gives our emotions and intuitions real-world manifestation, and has us experiencing and/or witnessing the emotional impact of our everyday behaviors and practices. It reveals the ways we go about living our everyday lives, and helps us see how our life choices align (or don’t align) with our highest beliefs, ideals, and/or consciousness. This moon phase brings opportunities for course correction, if needed, through service.
The Virgo-Pisces axis is what I call the “Axis of Service”, and while the Pisces side of the axis focuses on transcendental service – service through which we’re inspired to serve something greater than ourselves in alignment with our highest truths and ideals, the Virgo side represents the real world, day-to-day of service – our everyday routines and service efforts, often through our jobs and other pragmatic purposes. This can be how we make sure everyday life works for ourselves and others in a very practical way. A large and often overlooked aspect of service is self-service – how we take care of ourselves and tend to our health and wellness on every level – because if we don’t take care of ourselves, we won’t be able to be of any healthy or genuinely helpful service to others. Under the influence of this Full Moon in Virgo, we become more emotionally tuned in to how our lives are working on a practical, everyday level. We become more aware of how our daily routines support (or detriment) our health and wellness and the functionality of our lives.
The 2023 Virgo Full Moon may find many of us in inquiry, not only an individual level – noticing which areas of our lives we tend to sacrifice ourselves in and/or who we tend to sacrifice ourselves for – but also, and maybe especially, on a collective level. Right now, there are questions about careers and workplaces, health care, political policies, social and societal values, religious beliefs, etc. There are also questions about how the reality we’re currently living in occurs to some as a betrayal or painful rejection of the ideals we’ve been taught and/or conditioned to believe for most of our lives before now.
In the face of these major social and societal challenges, how are our systems and processes to deal with them working for us? And what are we willing to do to find and implement solutions when things are not working? This 2023 Virgo Full Moon is likely to bring many of these issues to a head as it will likely have us face-to-face with the personal and collective wounds that need healing now – some of which are issues we’ve managed to avoid until now. This will especially be the case as many of us find ourselves trying hard to live our everyday lives in ways which won’t reveal what we’ve kept hidden in our emotional depths, all while not realizing that how we choose to live our everyday lives and the choices we make in our day-to-day put our values out in the open and reveals our emotional depths anyway. Some of these wounds are fresh, while the origins of others go back a very long time.
Wherever and whenever they may have started, the 2023 Virgo Full Moon is an opportunity to heal those wounds by reconciling your practices with your truths, and this works both ways. If you’ve claimed to hold certain beliefs or values but haven’t practiced them, this is an opportunity for you to begin practicing what you’ve preached. If you’ve practiced but haven’t spoken about your beliefs or vision behind your deeds, this Full Moon phase could be a time for you to begin sharing your truth openly with others.
Of course, both of these steps come with risk – the risk of other people learning what you really believe to be true. And this could change the way you live your everyday life.
After all of the experiences you’ve had, insights and information you’ve been exposed to, and the wisdom you’ve gained, are you ready to align your life with your truth? Are you ready for the world to know who you truly are? Is it time for not just any change, but a change that could change your life?
For many of us, now may be the time for that change.
Many of us have felt like we’ve been drifting in the open sea for a while now. Even if we’ve known where we’ve wanted to end up, we may not have had any idea how we could get there. With this Full Moon phase, Virgo’s mud now brings some substance to our flow. It won’t be enough to stop us from going with the flow (that block could come from Saturn which enters Pisces only 55 minutes after the Moon’s max phase!), but it is going to give us something we can see and feel. It may be murky at first as making a change this significant may cloud the water and have us feeling disoriented and uncertain… until things settle down and we’ll be able to see the course we’ve put ourselves on more clearly. Yet we must first have the courage to admit to ourselves where our behaviors have not been in alignment with our inner truths in order to make the changes we’ve long been afraid to make.
The 2023 Virgo Full Moon occurs on a numerological 8 Universal Day throughout the globe, making this a day on which matters of power, influence, control, and manipulation will be the focus of our attention, whether the power plays are being made in the world around them or in their personal lives. This is likely to be a day during which you recognize where you’re in the position of power in your acts of service, where you’re in a position of submission, or whether the energy is balanced exchange. This is an important time in that when we’re truly being of service, there is a balanced give-and-take. Where there isn’t balance, there will be one party that needs to stand up and (re)claim their power while the other party concedes some power or needs to have its power checked.
These power plays are happening within a 1 Universal Month of new beginnings and first steps, so it’ll be important to pay attention to how these plays are being made… or attempted. Notice who is being assertive or aggressive, and notice who is being passive or patient. That also brings an important point – don’t mistake patience for passivity. People have different processes – they can work differently and have different motivations for their efforts. Don’t assume they’re working the same way or have the same motives as you do. Especially with all of this energy under the umbrella of a 7 Universal Year, some of them may be preparing for bold action behind the scenes. In fact, some may be more prepared for action or reaction than others.
To that point, we need to remember that we’re still under a Pisces Sun, and Virgo’s pragmatism can bring harsh reality checks and/or painful disillusionment when we discover that our plans and methods aren’t working. We can often carry such lofty ideals, beliefs, and/or expectations of ourselves, others, and how we believe the world should work, reality can often prove a bit discouraging if not deeply disappointing. Yes, the events of this 2023 Virgo Full Moon period will bring reality to the fantasy, however, they’ll either be exactly what is needed in order for you to break a cycle of abuse and neglect, or be exactly what is needed to help you reach rock bottom, face and deal with where you are in your journey, and hopefully, change your course for the better. It’s only up from the bottom, remember that.
With all of that being said, here are the astrological aspects within 3ᵒ orb at the time of the 2023 Virgo Full Moon’s maximum phase.
Pisces 1 Sun opposite Virgo Moon (16ᵒ) – Emotional-intuitive energies are highlighted now, and our emotional energies are focused on our day-to-day lives are working for us. Are our routine responsibilities and activities supporting our health and wellness, or are they detrimental to our well-being?
SEQUENCE: (Pisces White Moon Selene conjunct Neptune) semi-sextile (Aries Eris conjunct Juno) semi-sextile Taurus Sedna (24-28ᵒ) – Many of us have an idea or ideal of what our collective Highest and greatest good should look like in our individual and collective reality. However, many of us are experiencing the reality that we’re actually living as a betrayal or painful rejection of their ideals, and we’re committed to either avenging our sense of rejection or overcoming it through actions which may or may not be helpful to everyone involved.
(Aries Vesta conjunct Jupiter conjunct Chiron) square Cancer Pallas Athena (12-14ᵒ) – Renewed determination to grow beyond one’s self-identity wounds is challenged to break past (possibly family) emotional patterns.
T-SQUARE: Taurus North Node square Leo Black Moon Lilith square Scorpio South Node (4-6ᵒ) – In axis relationships like Taurus and Scorpio or Virgo and Pisces, both sides stand for the same thing but differently. In this case, Taurus and Scorpio are what I call “the Axis of Influence”, so the question is whether or not we want to use materialism (physical/material/financial priorities) or emotion (real and often secret emotional truths) to influence (or manipulate) others into getting the acknowledgment we want for our unique individual self-expression and/or individual creative self-expression and/or our generosity in sharing our spotlight. This dynamic will be occurring on both the collective level (community, society, global) as well as in the matters of your individual life, personal and professional.
Aries Chiron quincunx Virgo Moon (14-16ᵒ) – Your ability to heal your self-identity wounds is indirectly impacted by the functionality (or dysfunctionality) of your day-to-day life.
Aries Venus quincunx Virgo Moon (16-18ᵒ) – Your one-on-one relationships of all kinds indirectly bring insights into how well your service efforts are serving you.
- These two aspects could be considered as a conjunction (4ᵒ orb) between Venus and Chiron, which would indicate that one-on-one relationships could be the gateway to healing your self-identity wounds, though that healing may be the direct outcome of an indirect situation or event.
Pisces Mercury quincunx Leo Black Moon Lilith (6-7ᵒ) – Higher thinking and speaking reveals healthier ego/self-expression energies and feelings of joy or victim thinking and speaking indirectly reveals unaddressed pain or ego-wounding and feelings of resentment toward others.
(Pisces White Moon Selene conjunct Neptune) square Gemini Mars (21ᵒ) – Your Highest aspirations may be challenged or threatened by what we’ve been conditioned to think and believe about them. Your vision or ideal may be compromised by reality, leaving you uncertain or possibly even confused about what you’ve always believed to be true… which you begin to realize was simply what you were conditioned to believe. This could result in your or others lashing out at others rather than allowing yourself to process the new information and recenter yourself in your evolving inner truth.
The energy of this 2023 Virgo Full Moon phase will be felt from Saturday 4th March through Friday 10th March 2023. During this one-week period, if you find yourself experiencing a difficult or disappointing emotional or spiritual reality, it’s okay to let yourself feel those emotions, and it may be okay for you to let others see them, too. Allow yourself to receive the service and support of others now, especially if you’re someone who’s always in service to others. And if you find yourself having a positive upswing in your experiences, this could be a time for you to be of service to others by either sharing your wisdom of experience with others or by simply offering a helping hand or resource. This can be especially empowering for both the recipient and you when offered with no expectation of return or reward – just simple generosity and sharing. After all, it’s not just about going with the flow, it’s about the substance you bring to it that helps you and others find your way.
Thanks for reading and sharing Signs and Numbers. Until next post…
