Saturn entered Pisces at 5:35a PST on Tuesday 7th March 2023, only 55 minutes after the 2023 Virgo Full Moon reached its maximum phase. Saturn will be in Pisces until 2026, though it will make a brief dip into Aries and move back into Pisces in 2025 before moving on to Aries in 2026.
The 2023 Virgo Full Moon added some substance to the watery flow of Pisces, but depending on your natal and/or progressed chart, Saturn could prove to be either the presence that stops Pisces’ flow… or it could be the presence that directs it. Whatever the case may be for you, Saturn in Pisces will definitely help each and all of us learn what is or will be necessary for us to realize the individual and collective vision(s) we hold for ourselves and our lives.
I often believe that Saturn gets a bad rap in the astrological community, because it’s known to represent patriarchal, authoritarian energy which can be very limiting and oppressive if used in a manner intended to control or manipulate others. As the ruling planet of Capricorn, some individuals or institutions may apply Saturn’s energy in their efforts to establish or maintain a hierarchy or position of status or power.
However, I prefer to approach Saturn with a bit more optimism. In my experience, Saturn brings much-needed focus and discipline to the matters-at-hand, and this is especially the case – and possibly is very much needed – when Saturn is traveling through Pisces. Without the ability to focus, it can be very difficult if not impossible to achieve goals or fulfill ambitions.
Pisces, a mutable water sign, has a reputation for being open and easy-going to a fault. Eager to be of service to others in a very transcendental, selfless way, it’s easy for people with Pisces Suns, Moons, angles, or other strong Pisces influences to be easily distracted or misdirected. Saturn provides Pisces with structure.
Yet what is structure for some may feel like oppression or restriction to others. Pisces itself – and the other mutable mode signs Gemini, Virgo, and Sagittarius – may feel oppressed or controlled by Saturn’s presence. For these signs, Saturn’s presence is often largely unwelcome as long as they want to continue (on their own terms) to gather information before taking action, or analyze the situation for a few more days or weeks, or wants to travel and otherwise experience the world… and, of course, if they want to remain in dreamland where everything is a vision, dream, fantasy, or escape from reality. Mutable signs are adaptive, yet Saturn tends to bring a bit more stability than these signs are accustomed to. In fact, the stability that many of us are seeking right now may end up feeling rather limiting or oppressive at times in these next 35 months.
Despite its reputation for being a wall that obstructs and limits, the weird reverse effect of Saturn in Pisces is that it could end up bringing structure to our lives in a positive way. Some of us may resist its discipline, but other of us may find a path to liberation through it. In fact, focus and discipline and declaring ourselves the authorities of our own lives may be exactly what is needed at this time in our life journeys.
Saturn in Pisces encourages:
- honoring of one’s inner truth
- honoring your vision or ideal through selfless service and philanthropy
- a focus on dreams, ideals, and visions
- taking responsibility for your dreams and ideals
- increased consciousness of interconnection with All-That-Is
- closer to Source through
- spirituality or spiritual beliefs and practices
- transcendental experience (via meditation and/or substance enhancement)
- answering call to be of Spiritual or philanthropic service
Things to note during this 2023-2026 Saturn in Pisces:
- You may be trying to go with the flow, but feel like your flow is being disrupted. You could get frustrated or feel defeated if this occurs as a “denial of access” to something you want, but consider this may be a redirection or a ‘course correction’ that is trying to get you where you want to go another way.
- Dreams may become nightmares as you may be forced to face or deal with realities that don’t align with or allow your fantasies or ideals. These wake-up calls won’t be fun, but they will be valuable in the long run. If you’re going to realize your dreams in your waking and present life, you’ll need to deal in reality.
- There will be many moments in which you will recognize the use and/or impact of the delusion of exceptionalism. Pisces’ energy of collective Oneness does not allow for exceptionalism of any kind, and any form of exceptionalism may be strongly discouraged or rejected at this time. ALL experiences are possible for everyone, and that includes limitations and/or denials… but this also means that breakthroughs and acceptance are available for everyone. TThe old standards of the past may begin to ease or dissolve under Pisces Saturn, but be prepared to witness resistance, experience resistance, or possibly even find yourself as someone actively in resistance to the rejection of exceptionalism in any or all its forms.
- This energy almost demands we take responsibility and/or ownership of our visions and ideals. Yes, we will need to work with others in order to realize them. This will also require taking responsibility and ownership for our past deeds and how the past has impacted the present. There cannot be unison until divides and the reasons for them are addressed.
- Some of us may experiencing limitations or restrictions on our ability to perform collaborative acts of charitable, philanthropic, or spiritual service. Look for institutions in denial of our collective interconnection to actively oppose or deny it in many forms, largely in order to maintain their power or influence on the whole.
- This combination could also produce situations in which emotional/energetic/spiritual/karmic boundaries need to be set and upheld in order to prevent one from completely sacrificing oneself for another or others.
- Some of us are too eager to serve, and may even be using “service” as a way to avoid dealing with and healing our own broken dreams and failed visions. Make sure you allow time for yourself to rest and regenerate. Also make sure you serve yourself and allow others to serve you. Balance is necessary in service – we must allow ourselves to both give and receive.
- Some of us may feel so defeated or so afraid to face the pain of our past and/or present, we may resort to numbing the pain. Be careful about using substances in excess (alcohol, drugs, food, etc.) or behaviors (especially abusive or dehumanizing violence) in order to express or act out your fears and/or to avoid working through your realities peacefully. Please seek assistance, guidance, counseling, etc. if you find yourself desperate to escape harsh realities you may be facing or may be afraid to face. There is empathetic, compassionate, and caring support available if you’re willing to seek it and ask for it. Please do… or accept it if it is offered and intuitively feels right for you to do so.
- To that point, shame often comes with addiction. We may actually see authorities and institutions take the shame factor out of substance and behavioral addictions by beginning to decriminalize and/or fund treatment programs instead of continuing to address those matters as they’ve been handled in the past.
Throughout these next three years of Saturn in Pisces, we all will feel the impact eventually, whether directly or indirectly. Depending on our prior exposure or experience, reality may be harder on some than others. Please recognize this as you move through this time. When given the option, choose to love one another. Extend compassion and empathy with no agenda or end game other than to care about your fellow beings. Help each other come to terms with the realities of our pasts, to understand and acknowledge each other’s pain, and to resolve those differences in order to heal the old wounds and move forward in the present as a unified collective whole. Think about what is best not only for you, but for as many as possible. Yes, put yourself first – as they say on planes, place your oxygen mask on first before your child or companion. Yet once yours is on, do your best to realize a vision in which we all can coexist in peace.
Saturn will be in Pisces from 7th March 2023 through 24th May 2025 when it enters Aries, retrogrades back into Pisces 1st September 2025, then returns to direct motion in Pisces on before reentering Aries to definitively end its current run in Pisces on 13th February 2026.
We’ll have just shy of three years to use this Saturn in Pisces energy to our advantage. Instead of allowing these energies to hold you back, use them energies to focus and discipline yourself to realize your vision and bring your dreams into reality.
Thank you for reading and sharing Signs and Numbers. Until next post…
