The 2023 Taurus Full Moon reaches its maximum phase at 1:24p PDT on Saturday 28th October 2023 at 5°09’. This is not only a Full Moon phase, bringing its usual energy of culmination – this one is also a Lunar Eclipse which obstructs our ability to fully recognize and feel the results and/or rewards of that culmination.
During a Full Moon, the light of the Sun is reflected by the face of the Moon. In symbolic terms, the Light exposes our emotional truth, which reflects that light back to us. Full Moons are a time of understanding – a time for us to recognize when and how our emotions influence our perspectives and actions. Yet during a Lunar Eclipse, the Earth obstructs the Sun’s light from reaching the Moon’s surface. Again, in symbolic terms, the activities, affairs, and events of our lives will try to get in the way of our emotional awakening and awareness.
However, this is a PARTIAL Lunar Eclipse which will allow some of the Sun’s light to be reflected. This is an indicator that no matter how much some of us may try, we won’t be able to remain detached from our emotional truths or deny emotional reality. In fact, we’re still going to feel some things, and we’ll feel them more intensely than usual. Why?
Remember – the Taurus Full Moon is reflecting the light of the Scorpio Sun. Scorpio’s fixed water energy empowers us to explore our emotional and spiritual depths, deepening and intensifying the emotions we may feel for what we value most. The Scorpio Sun’s light is still going to shine through, and with the partial obscurity, the light will seem more intense than usual. Don’t be surprised if the truths that are revealed during this Full Moon phase make a deeper and more enduring impact, upon you and all of us, than usual.
The Moon is in Taurus, which is fixed earth energy, meaning it’s solid and stable… or it at least strives to be. Its placement in your personal chart(s) reveals what you value most because it supports your self-identity and self-initiative (Aries). This support is most obviously physical, material, and/or financial in nature – our lifestyle resources (a.k.a. our survival needs such as shelter, water, food, clothing, etc.) are all part of this foundational energy.
However, many of us value much more than these physical and material resources. In fact, some of us would even say we value certain things beyond these resources. One of the biggest lessons of this 2023 Taurus Full Moon Lunar Eclipse will be the reality of our individual perspectives in this regard, as our environments and privileges often influence what we value and prioritize most in our lives.
Taurus also brings us into full awareness of our personal comfort zones, as it can become difficult to make changes in the areas of our lives where our survival and lifestyle needs are getting met. In fact, no matter how uncomfortable our comfort zones may become, we tend to stick with them (or remain stuck in them) because they’re familiar, and familiarity breeds inactivity. Yet if ever a time for us to reach our respective breaking points – that moment when we cannot emotionally and/or spiritually endure emotional or spiritual discomfort or dysfunction any longer – that time is likely during this 2023 Taurus Full Moon Lunar Eclipse.
For some of us, this 2023 Taurus Full Moon Eclipse will bring some much-needed affirmations, confirmations, and revelations regarding who and what supports, encourages, and values our self-identities. Yet what will be most revealing during this Full Moon Eclipse phase is how much we value and support ourselves.
The numerology of this 2023 Taurus Full Moon Lunar Eclipse is powerfully supports this inquiry into our relationships to ourselves and the people, things, and activities in our lives. Occurring on a 9 Universal Day from the date line east to West Asia/the Middle East, and on a 1 Universal Day from West Asia to the other side of the date line. The point of change is West Asia/the Middle East, which at this time is a very powerful point of transition. Yet is should be of note that the current area of mention is positioned on the edge of the 9 Universal Day energy.
Nine is the number of fulfillments, completion, and endings; while One is the number of new beginnings, initiative, and getting started.
The 9 day energy also is a perfect complement to the Full Moon energy of culmination. This indicates something coming to an end, and not just the end of a chapter, but truly the end of a book or narrative. The 1 day energy aligns more with the eclipse in its indication that the affairs of our world and our lives will be temporary, but have an enduring effect upon the choices we make moving forward from here. It comes with a powerful message – that we will no longer be living in the past. Instead, we’ll be living to make sure the past is not repeated.
Many of the events happening in our individual lives and in the world right now are only the seeds of permanent change. However, these energies occurring under the influence of an 8 Universal Month of power, influence, control, and manipulation indicates that there’s still a good amount of work to be done before any of these shifts are settled. Keep in mind that manipulation is often employed to wield influence and gain control over matters, as having control is often seen as having power. As result, the energies of this 2023 Taurus Full Moon may find us questioning and confused about who really has power right now.
The beautiful thing is… the eclipse is partial. We will be able to feel our way through this. We will be able to feel what is true. Some of us will not like what we feel, while others of us will find hope in the feelings coming forward. Most of us will experience feelings of both deep sorrow and exceptional joy.
All of this is occurring under the energy of a 7 Universal Year – a year of rest, reflection, regrouping, analysis, and patience. It will be important to be patient with ourselves as these events transpire and our emotions and intuitions process. There are certain things we will need to address immediately, while others can wait. It will be up to us to assess our resources, and discern and prioritize our choices and actions at this time. It also indicates that the changes we are making now probably won’t be fully realized for another 18 to 24 months. However, the ultimate outcomes will be seeded now.
With all of that being said, there’s a lot to think about during this 2023 Taurus Full Moon Lunar Eclipse, but none more so than how much we value the people and things we have in our lives, and whether or not we value them as much or more than we value ourselves. Through we’ve moved out of Libra’s energy for the most part, Venus in Virgo keeps our relationships in our minds… in a pragmatic way.
Which connections and activities help us move forward in the way we want to move forward in our lives? And more important at this time, which connections push us to tune into and feel the deeper emotional and spiritual truths found in our connections to our Higher Selves, others, and the world(s) around us?
To get through this 2023 Taurus Full Moon Lunar Eclipse successfully, we’ll need to come to terms with the fact that our relationships are also resources.
We use people, and people use us. Sometimes, there are emotional investments in these relationships. Yet when our earthly affairs make their presence undeniable (eclipse), some of these relationships can become strained because we realize we don’t or no longer share the same or similar values, or we realize that the purpose for the connection has run its course in our lives. It’s in these moments when we may recognize what some of these relationships were really all about, but more so, we learn more about what we really value in others and what others really value in us.
Then there’s the call to directly address the morals and ethics we practice around what we value. This will often depend on how invested we are in these resource needs. In resource terms, value is determined by how much we need it to survive. In moral terms, value is determined by what we’re willing to do to obtain or sustain the resource. This is where morality and ethical conscience come into the picture.
Questions you can ask yourself at this time to clarify your position(s):
- What are you willing to do to obtain or sustain what you think you value most?
- If you’re not getting what you want or need, have you considered that you’re not getting it because your values and priorities may be misplaced or misdirected?
- If you’re feeling frustrated or lost, check in – are you trying to choose between your emotional investments and your physical/material/financial ones?
- Does pursuing, obtaining, and sustaining your lifestyle resources empower or disempower you?
Your answers to the first set of questions may help you answer this second set:
- What do you value most emotionally?
- What do you value most on a physical, material, and/or financial level?
- What do you find yourself prioritizing through your recent and current choices and actions?
- Are you prioritizing your choices and actions through your emotional-spiritual needs or desires, or through your physical/material/financial needs or desires?
And when you review your last four answers, what do you now recognize as your true lifestyle essentials?
For more insights into how your current perspectives, choices, and actions help you tune into your true values, here are the astrological transits (within 3° orb) at the time of the 2023 Taurus Full Moon Lunar Eclipse’s maximum phase:
Scorpio 8 Sun sextile Virgo Juno trine Taurus Moon (4-5°) – There’s a commitment to finding practical solutions to the problems at hand, but the solutions are much deeper than you may be used to looking. Yet if you find them, they will take root and thrive in ways you can’t imagine.
(Scorpio Mercury conjunct Mars) opposite Taurus Jupiter Retrograde (10-11°) – Deep thoughts provoke deeply-considered actions, which will bear fruit if you act only when your heart/intuition and mind are aligned. Make sure it feels right and “thinks” right before you take action.
Scorpio 8 Sun trine Cancer Vesta sextile Taurus Moon (5-7°) – This could set off some powerful emotional responses. Which emotions are set off will depend on how secure your home and family matters feel to you, and how emotionally invested you may be in them. The choices you make regarding your physical, material, and financial resources will be financially driven at this time. Make sure
NODAL T-SQUARE: (Aries Eris Retrograde conjunct North Node conjunct White Moon Selena) square Capricorn Pluto square Libra South Node (24-27°) – The time for “the others” has come. Those who have been ostracized as “different” or “weird” will find themselves able to make strides they’ve never made before. This is because the societal institutions and structures are transforming, and old relationships and partnerships are no longer going to suffice as the call to rise above and beyond the old ways grow louder and stronger. You may notice some of these relationships fall away if they aren’t going to level up with you.
YOD: Virgo Venus quincunx Aries Chiron Retrograde quincunx Scorpio Ceres (18-22°) – Wherever you’re experiencing challenges to your self-esteem, ask yourself if you still need to remain involved in that situation or relationship. Ask yourself if that connection still has value to you, practically and/or emotionally.
SEQUENCE: Virgo Venus semi-sextile Libra Pallas Athena semi-sextile Scorpio Ceres (18-20°) – Pragmatic partnerships lead to relationship patterns which may influence (and possibly challenge) one’s personal ethics and morals, depending on whether or not the patterns align with one’s personal values.
Taurus Uranus Retrograde trine Virgo Venus (18-21°) – Unexpected shifts in collective lifestyle values may employ and empower the value of some of your relationships. Which relationships serve a practical purpose in your life? Which ones help make your life “work”?
Taurus Uranus Retrograde trine Virgo Black Moon Lilith (21-22°) – The same unexpected collective lifestyle value shifts also empower ego-driven purposes. It’s important to discern which of your values are actually from your Higher consciousness self and which ones are from your ego.
Taurus Uranus Retrograde opposite Scorpio Mars (18-21°) – These shifts in the collective lifestyle values are balanced by actions which give you a deeper emotional and spiritual experience. These shifts aren’t meant to keep you at a surface level – they’re meant to help you understand what motivates your actions and whether or not your actions are aligned with what you truly value.
The energies of this 2023 Taurus Full Moon and Partial Lunar Eclipse will be felt most strongly from Wednesday 25th October through 31st October 2023, yet the effect of the eclipse will be felt most strongly over the next three to six months. These are powerful shifts occurring now, and they may change the course of our individual lives because they may be changing the course of the entire world.
The best way for you to navigate these shifts and changes? Acknowledge the truths coming to light. Acknowledge how they may affirm or change your personal perspective and your feelings about certain aspects and areas of your life. Recognize which changes may need to be made in your life as result of your new reality,
Then align with your newly clarified values by making choices and taking actions in alignment with those values. Honor your inner truth above all else, even if it leads to a transformation of your life and possibly a transformation of the world around you. As uncomfortable as it may feel at first, that total renovation of one or more areas of your life will likely prove, in its culmination, to be for the better.
