Mars entered Aquarius yesterday, December 25th at 4:49p PST.
In doing so, it shifts the intentions of our actions from the fulfillment of goals and ambitions and getting tangible results to the collection of individuals that make up our group/team/institutional associations, our social circles, and the whole of humanity. Aquarius is the sign of collaboration, mass communication, technology, unique expression, inspired ideas – the Millenium Generation, the Age of the 5th Sun. It’s all comes together under this sign.
Aquarius is a fixed energy air element sign. This means that it firmly represents air – intellectual, objective, emotionally detached, logical. Fixed energy can also be stubborn – it doesn’t give up its position easily, meaning that its objectivity and logical approach is unwavering.
Mars is pure action – masculine, assertive, initiative action. And when combined with Aquarius, this action can show up a few different ways.
Sometimes, Mars in Aquarius energy shows up as individual actions taken to distinguish oneself from the group or collective whole. You may feel like you are not acknowledged or appreciated by the rest of the team or group, and you want to take action to leave and find another environment in which you have more significance or maybe one in which you simply know that you belong.
This version of Mars in Aquarius energy usually happens when you recognize that you no longer have a place in a group you’ve been in for a while, or that there are too many of you doing similar roles. But it also happens when you can no longer align yourself with the direction of the organization, group, or team you are a part of. It is a rebellious expression, and one that inspires crusades and revolutions.
But at other times, Mars in Aquarius energy shows up as individual actions taken as part of a group, team, or organization of some sort. You find yourself seeking ways to express your unique individuality within a collective effort or on behalf of a greater whole. In this case, you’re kind of like a piece in a jigsaw puzzle – you have a place in the bigger picture, and it is important because the picture would not be complete without you. It is essential for you to recognize where your presence and your contribution to something bigger than you alone really does make a difference, even it seems to be a small one.
This latter version of Mars in Aquarius can also show up in a unique circumstance – when there are too many elements of the group that are autonomous. When a group is no longer functioning as a group, there may be a need for individuals to come (back) together as a whole to create solutions to problems that are greater than anything they could have done alone.
This time around in 2012-2013, it is likely through a combination of these two expressions that Mars in Aquarius takes on a very important role at this time. This Mars cycle is a uniquely new expression of that Aquarian rebellious nature.
These rebels within “The Great Awakening” are some of the individuals known as “free thinkers” (or the ones most of society calls the “misfits”, “outcasts”, “weirdoes” or “crazies”) – people who are proverbial soldiers for whatever revolutionary cause they are taking up against the status quo. Many may dismiss them, but at this point in time it is they who recognize that big changes must happen if we are to remain free and if we are to maintain our inherent integrity and Truth, and they are willing to take the necessary actions to make those changes happen.
Under this Mars in Aquarius cycle, it seems these folks are about to get their opportunity. The energy is now ripe and ready for action – the match is ready. All it needs is a strike and some kindling.
However, this revolution may not be what you think.
In fact, this revolution may not be so much separation but a reunion or reparation – a call for us to come together rather than to break apart. In the face of polarizing stances on many issues that we face within our various nations and within our collective world, there are “soldiers” who stand up and call upon us all to stop being so proud and divisive and instead come together to bridge these gaps.
They are calling upon humanity to join their crusade for inspired collaboration.
That fuel for the crusade’s fire may show up when the Aquarius Mars trines Gemini Jupiter on January 4th. Jupiter could give this Mars crusade the positive energy, growth, and expansion it needs to gain much-needed mobilizing support. I see this transit as the potential for rebels coming together for a cause.
However, changes rarely come forth without challenges, and in order for something new to be built something else must me cleared out of the way. When Mars in Aquarius squares Saturn in Scorpio on January 7th, it may be the moment when the old ways may prove too much for the crusade to bear…or it may be the moment when the crusade finds its tipping point and the old ways finally give way.
We’ll find out when we get there. All I know is that we are in for some very exciting times under this 2012-2013 Mars in Aquarius cycle.
Mars will remain in Aquarius until February 1st, 2013.
