The Moon goes into Full Phase in Cancer opposite the Capricorn Sun @ 2:21a PST on Friday, December 28th, 2012.
This is rather interesting timing for this astronomical and astrological Cancer Full Moon event, as it comes 3 days before the Calendar New Year, and it happens right as other aspects are strongly influencing some major decisions being made in businesses/corporations, governments, and institutions as well as in our individual lives.
Cancer is the sign known as the mother-figure of the Zodiac, which makes it the perfect complement to the father-figure Capricorn. In the fundamental archetypes, the mother is the one who is home and nurturing the protective base while the father is out hunting and/or working to support the family. In more modern archetypes, the mother is a support to the father and their family. The mother’s role and domain also reflects the father’s wealth, success, and status professionally and socially.
However, as this Cancer Full Moon comes upon us, there is a shifting perspective about what defines success and what makes someone truly accomplished on the Capricorn Sun side of things. The male archetype is undergoing a major transformation in this dawning world of The 5th Sun. In the face of individual material and financial wealth and professional titles being phased out as the defining standards of social and professional success and status, we are now being asked to consider the wealth and well-being of those we are responsible for in addition to our own wealth and well-being as a definitive measure of our individual public and professional status.
With this significant shift in the definition of success and accomplishment, the intentions, goals, and ambitions we set for ourselves must also undergo changes. As we mull over what we are committed to achieving in our lives under the Light of this Capricorn Sun, we also must consider what may bring similar success to as many people as possible. However, when we set the bar this high for ourselves and as we focus on the external, paternal role so strongly, sometimes we may find that we forget the softer, more maternal side and what is most important to us – the reason(s) why we work so hard to achieve so much. It’s easy to get caught up in how everything works on the outside and to neglect what we care about on the inside.
This is why this 2012 Cancer Full Moon seems more perfectly timed and more profound than usual. As we are planning and creating our goals and intentions for the upcoming year, the Full Moon urges us to remember something we often forget:
- How do our shifting goals and ambitions affect our intentions and commitments to our loved ones we say we are committed to nurturing and protecting and loving?
- Will what we are committed to having professionally and socially take us or keep us away from them or will it enable us to spend more time with them?
- Will pursuing our goals enhance or compromise our ability to let them know how much they mean to us?
The Cancer Full Moon asks us to think about our personal and private goals and intentions just as seriously as we are thinking about our professional and public ones. It commands us to keep a balanced perspective and to remember that both professional and personal, public and private are essential and vital to our individual and collective existence.
Though a Full Moon in Cancer event happens every year, it seems to hold quite a bit more significance. It’s as if the Universe knows that we are making some major changes in our lives and in our world, and it seems to know that we may get caught up in the external and forget what is important to us in our hearts.
That is why it is so important for you to take note of what is in your heart and what warms it over the couple of days during this 2012 Cancer Full Moon cycle. As you think about what you want to accomplish outwardly in the year of 2013, do your best to give your heart’s desires and your loved ones equal billing. This will ensure that your achievement of your goals and accomplishments can be just as emotionally and spiritually fulfilling for you as they may be materially and financially.
