New Moons always bring opportunities for new beginnings and fresh starts. This 2014 Aquarius New Moon, exact at 1:39p PST on Thursday, 30th January 2014, brings an interesting twist to these new beginnings as Aquarius is about both individuality and collaboration.
It is important that you are uniquely you, yet it’s equally important that you contribute to something bigger than yourself while being uniquely you. Therein lies the curious nature of the Aquarius New Moon – the question of how to find new ways to belong and be yourself at the same time.
No one can do you better than you, so it becomes a matter of how much you embrace your own uniqueness and how willing you are to be yourself in the world. Yet, many people hesitate to be themselves fully. Why? They want to belong, and erroneously believe that in order to belong, they must be like everyone else around them. They give up their uniqueness and individuality in order to make themselves like others so they can “have things in common”. Yet pretending to like something or pretending to be someone you’re not is not having something “in common” – it’s pretending to have something in common. After a while, one of two things happens – you either grow tired of pretending to be someone you’re not and lash out in rebellion, or you get found out as being who you really are.
So what does belonging really mean? After all, you can be around a bunch of people just to say you were there, but anyone can surround themselves with people. Go to a concert or a sporting event or something. You can buy a ticket and say that you belonged there just because you were there. But do you still feel alone among all of those people? Do you still feel invisible or lost in the crowd? If so, then you’re probably not really belonging. You’re just there.
It’s an entirely different experience to be in conscious collaboration with others – to be an active and unique part of something bigger than yourself by being your unique self fully. When your distinctive expression has a place in the bigger picture, when your individuality fills a special role that no one else can fulfill, this is how you truly belong. You feel valued for your role, you can be acknowledged for your role, and you can be yourself fully in your role because you aren’t pretending to be anyone other than who you truly are.
Even people who are considered rebels and outcasts exist in conscious collaboration. If they didn’t, there would be no one or nothing for them to rebel against or be outcast from. The people who “don’t belong” need to acknowledge that they are conscious of what they are choosing to withdraw from or not engage with. In their own unique way, they are fulfilling a community role in their individual self-expressions. They belong, too, even in their trying not to.
So the call of this 2014 Aquarius New Moon is for you to notice where you do or don’t belong. Be honest with yourself about where in your life you find yourself pretending to be someone you’re not in order to fit in, and where you find yourself able to let your guard down completely and be completely yourself. The new beginnings you seek at this time can be found wherever you can be yourself fully and uniquely.
And don’t despair if you can’t find a community to belong to. It may be that you can’t find a community to belong to because you’re meant to create one simply by being who you are. Maybe you aren’t the one to join, but the one to lead and be joined. Your new beginning during this 2014 Aquarius New Moon could be that you begin being yourself and realize what you can create when you choose to be yourself for no one but yourself. You may be surprised by how many people may be inspired into their unique self-expressions because you choose to claim your own.
Get out there and be your True self. The world is waiting for you.
