The 2019 Virgo Full Moon reaches its maximum phase at 7:53a PST on Tuesday, 19th February (0.70°), with the Sun entering the sign of Pisces just under 17 hours before this Full Moon phase. This is an especially interesting Full Moon in that the Virgo-Pisces axis is service-focused – Virgo is more personal, worldly, practical service while Pisces is more collective, transcendental, spiritual service. They both aim to contribute to others, but one is more about being of service in order to make things work in one’s own life while the other is being of service to make sure things work for the advancement of the collective whole.
During a Full Moon, the Sun’s light is being fully reflected by the Moon. So, in this February 2019 case, the Pisces Sun’s light is being reflected by the Virgo Moon. To understand how the dynamic between these two signs plays out energetically, let’s talk about Pisces and Virgo in a bit more detail.
A mutable water sign, Pisces tends to focus its energies toward transcendental service – service to the collective whole or the Oneness of All-That-Is. Its service intentions are usually rooted in compassion, empathy, and unconditional love and acceptance for everyone and everything in the earthly world (including Earth itself) and throughout the entire Universe. It is conscious if not hyper-conscious of everyone and everything else, often to a point of forgetting that it, too, is part of the Oneness it serves.
As result, Pisces tends to go with everyone else’s flow, forgetting that it has a flow of its own. In fact, it can become so focused on including and serving and loving everyone else, it often finds itself giving, giving, and giving… until it melts down because it has no more to give and refused to allow itself to receive. This meltdown is the point at which Pisces usually goes into its victim-martyr complex – whining poetically on how it gave so much to others and no one else gave back to them… or how sensitive they are to other people’s energy and they are so drained and exhausted because they’ve been around others’ “toxic” vibes for too long… or how they are trying so hard to be good to others yet no one is ever good to them, etc. Yet when not in crisis and at its best, Pisces are the dreamers of the Zodiac – they are the ones who earnestly believe their acts of service can and will heal the world. Imaginative and visionary, Pisces inspires each and all of us to dream bigger, reach higher, and believe in something greater than ourselves.
In contrast, Virgo energy is very practical and pragmatic in how it goes about service. As a mutable earth sign, it strives to bring order and structure to constantly changing environments. It has a reputation for being super organized, often to the point of perfectionism.
Preferring order and process to chaos, Virgo does its best to make sure things happen the way they’re “supposed” to happen. In fact, Virgo’s approach to pretty much everything is that if it’s not working, it must be fixed or healed; and if it is working, there’s got to be a way to make it work better. Virgo always believes there’s a way to improve upon what is in place, and this is what gives Virgo its notorious reputation for being critical and judgmental. It’s important to know that Virgo usually doesn’t intend any ill will in its criticisms. After all, it’s only trying to make things work better, trying to heal and/or restore functionality, health, and overall wellness to whatever and whomever it engages with. Yet not many people can truly appreciate Virgo’s “constructive criticism”, and for those who are thin-skinned and sensitive to feedback from others, this can be a challenging energy to deal with…
…which is why this 2019 Virgo Full Moon is so powerful. This is an opportunity for each and all of us to look at criticism differently. Rather than choosing to be victims to the observations of Virgo energy and the emotions that criticism brings up, we instead could choose to listen for the gold within their criticisms and figure out how to apply their pragmatic feedback in ways which bring our visions and dreams into tangible and/or experiential reality.
By recognizing criticism as opportunity, we are able to reflect upon our pasts to realize where we were being given amazing advice, insights, and feedback but we may have been too busy being emotionally triggered or offended to notice the gifts that were being given to us. This 2019 Virgo Full Moon is our opportunity – your opportunity – to not only draw positives from the criticism of experiences past, but to allow the fact that those positives might have been intended, and to be able to now be acknowledge them, may allow you to heal the emotional and spiritual wounds you may have felt when that feedback was originally delivered. This lunar energy provides opportunities to heal (or at least to begin healing) the emotional and spiritual wounds of the past.
This lunar energy also provides opportunities to see current actions and events in a healing light as well. Rather than looking at the evil intentions and vicious acts occurring in the world right now only for the pain and suffering they are causing, we can also look at them as wounds which now get to be healed and/or illnesses which now get to be cured.
Of course, this will require us to first and foremost actually face and acknowledge that these travesties are indeed happening. This facing and acknowledging will be the hard part as the Pisces Sun energy may find some of us trying to escape or avoid the pain of the cold, hard truth of these toxic acts and beliefs. Yet that is why this Virgo Full Moon is so powerful – it reflects this avoidance back to us so we can clearly see how we don’t want to face or deal with our practical and factual realities. This 2019 Virgo Full Moon is not going to let us avoid or deny these detrimental behaviors any longer – it’s going to make us witness and feel the pain we are causing in order to initiate our healing process.
Some of us may choose to play victim to these truths we’re being forced to face, but that’s not going to make the facts go away. In fact, the more someone is playing victim right now, the more likely they are being confronted with their own toxic beliefs and behaviors and trying to escape accountability for the impact their personal choices made on the lives of another or others. Those who are willing to stand up and own up to their factual truths are the ones beginning the healing process in earnest, and on some level – even if it’s subconscious – they understand that if healing is going to occur in the world, it must begin with oneself.
It’s a wonderful synchronicity that this 2019 Virgo Full Moon is occurring on a numerological 6 universal day for most of the world. Six is the number of maternal energy – nurturing, healing, caring, and being of service to others. Its energy falls into almost perfect alignment with the intentions of the Pisces-Virgo axis, encouraging both its practical and emotional intentions. Yet this is also occurring in a 5 universal month of change and adaptability, and there will be plenty of changes to adapt to which are instigated by the energies present during this Full Moon phase.
To that point, let’s look at the various energies present through an examination of the transits which are active at the time of the 2019 Virgo Full Moon for deeper insights into these energies (3° orb).
- The most significant configuration occurring during this Full Moon phase is a “Golden Rectangle” configuration involving the Pisces Sun – Virgo Moon opposition (0°) sextile an Aries Uranus – Libra Pallas Athena opposition (29°). This reveals an awakening to the Oneness which connects each and all of us to everyone and everything, and how this interconnection is being reflected by the practicality and pragmatism of our everyday lives. Are we each and all acting as if we are interconnected, or are we trying to go about the day-to-day of our lives as if we are completely separate of each other? The other opposition brings individuals who feel they must take action on behalf of a cause or movement greater than themselves having a sense of urgency at this time, eager to balance what they perceive as a pattern of imbalance, unfairness, and injustice in the world. We’ll notice that more individuals may be taking bold individual action as a matter of either making one last attempt to implement an agenda which further divides us, or one first step toward healing our collective sense of unity and Oneness.
- The cardinal energy T-Square of Aries Uranus and the Nodal Axis is also still in effect (26-29°), though it’s literally at its tail end at the time of the Full Moon’s maximum phase. It’s not going out without a punch, though. Individuals who feel they must take action on behalf of a cause or movement greater than themselves may find a sense of urgency at this time. The stakes are high due to the fact that the Capricorn South Node represents the karma we’ve already mastered and likely favored to the point of imbalance (think ambition, achieving worldly goals, public and/or professional status, positions of authority or power in societal institutions). We are now being called to learn and master the karma of the Cancer North Node, but the current circumstances challenge each and all of us to choose which way we want to go – toward the lessons of emotional acknowledgment, caring, and nurturing which acknowledges each individual person as worthy of love and care; or toward the familiar past of ego-driven ambitions and societal status goals which encourage hierarchy and entitlement and acknowledge each individual person as a person deserving of what they are willing to claim as their own.
- There’s also a powerful double-conjuncted sextile of Saturn conjunct Venus in Capricorn (16-18) sextile Neptune conjunct Mercury (15-16). This is an interesting blend of energies because there is a determined focus on the partnerships & relationships in one’s life, and a consciousness of how those relationships affect one’s ability to pursue and/or achieve their professional and/or worldly ambitions. Do the one-on-one relationships of all kinds in your life support you in your efforts toward your goals, or do they distract you from what you are doing to fulfill them? This discernment of your various relationships is supported by your dreams and ideals and your thoughts and ideas which are fueled by them. Yet there is a crucial question to ask – are your thoughts and/or beliefs rooted in practical reality or in idealistic fantasy… or rather, in factual truth or in the reality you wish were so? This connection of two conjunctions is an opportunity to see how factual reality either sends you into an acceptance of that reality to deal and heal with what is so, or into an internal emotional-intellectual fantasyland to avoid or escape what is so.
- Chiron enters Aries the day before the Pisces Full Moon phase, bringing a shift in focus from healing the whole to healing our individual selves. Under the Pisces Sun/Virgo Full Moon, this is likely to show up as a heightened awareness of our own self-identity wounds. This makes perfect sense in light of what we’ve all been experiencing in the world – a sense that the boundaries are blurred, that cultures and ethnicities are no longer clearly defined. The more we learn about ourselves through the technological advances of DNA testing, new archaeological finds, and through our everyday exchanges of communication and information, the more we are understanding that we aren’t who we thought we were. As result, these wounds are becoming harder to ignore. Nevertheless, Chiron in Aries provides us with an opportunity to heal ourselves and reclaim our self-identities in ways which enable us to serve others in ways which positively affirm us.
- At the time of the Full Moon’s max phase, Aries Chiron is in semi-sextile aspect to the Pisces Sun and in quincunx aspect to the Virgo Moon, generating a heightened awareness of one’s feelings of separateness from Oneness. One’s individual wounds are made more prominent than they have been in a while as the overall attention on Oneness forces many people to look at how they perceive themselves as connected to or disconnected from that unified whole.
This 2019 Virgo Full Moon’s healing energy is most welcome after so many months of both real and perceived pain and suffering. Yet also under the influence of this Full Moon, we’ll finally be able to recognize how the pain and suffering we felt were largely due to our own perceptions of the experiences we were having and the changes which were happening around us and within us.
Embrace this moment. Embrace these energies coming forth.
Let the healing begin.
The energies of this 2019 Virgo Full Moon will be most strongly felt from the 16th through the 22nd February.
