After first stepping into the sign in March before going back into Scorpio for a retrograde run, Mars re-enters the sign of Sagittarius at 10:49a PDT on Tuesday, 2nd August 2016 – taking actions to expand one’s individual life experience, sense of independence, and leadership abilities while in pursuit of Truth in all its forms.
Sagittarius is the sign of adventure, risk, growth, and expansion. Mars represents initiative action, independence, leadership, and assertiveness.
When combined, you can count on Mars in Sagittarius show up as bold, larger-than-life actions which are likely spontaneous or impulsive, and taken in the name of freedom, adventure, and Truth.
But Mars can also represent anger and aggression. And Sagittarius can also represent exaggeration and excess – too much of a (good) thing. There is a strong likelihood that this 2016 Mars in Sagittarius could also show up as over-dramatized upset or anger (a.k.a. – big tantrums).
The questions which arise with any action under the influence of this 2016 Mars in Sagittarius are…
- Is action being taken as a wide-eyed, optimistic seeking of Truth, or as an anger-driven demand for Truth?
- Is action being taken as an expression of joy, or as an expression of upset?
- Is an action appropriate and/or mature for the matter being addressed, or is it over-blown and/or immature for the matter?
The interesting thing about this 2016 Mars in Sagittarius is that no matter what the reason behind the action, most everything will be in alignment with one simple philosophy:
If you’re going to do it, you might as well do it in a big way.
Big will be good in most cases. During this 2016 Mars in Sagittarius period, the stakes themselves will be big…which is fine by Sagittarius. As far a Sag is concerned, the bigger the better.
Yet there’s a subtext this time around. The ruler of Sagittarius, Jupiter, is in the sign of Virgo. This indicates that there’s a growing need for pragmatic expansion of efficient and effective routines to help us attend to the day-to-day function of our lives. Our daily routines will be affected if not challenged by these big, bold actions. And Mars is the ruler of Aries, which almost always acts assertively and in its own self-interest. Therefore, expect a lot of people to be taking bold actions in the best interests of their individual growth and the expansion of their agendas. Also expect some people to take on more than they can realistically handle.
The catch for many is that in taking big actions in their own self-interest, they will inevitably reveal truths about themselves – truths which may not be all that pleasant or popular. People will be exposed for who they authentically are, not necessarily as they want to be seen. It may seem a bit ironic, but if you don’t want people to know who you really are and what you’re really about, don’t do anything for the next few weeks.
But under the influence of the Leo 8 Sun, doing nothing is a highly unlikely proposition and not having your actions seen (or witnessed) is even more unlikely. In fact, you’re being called upon to reclaim your personal power under the Leo 8 Sun, and the actions you take while Mars is in Sagittarius are going to aid you in your self-reclamation process.
This 2016 Mars in Sagittarius is all about reclaiming your True self. In order to reclaim it, you may need to reveal it, and simply taking action will reveal who you truly are.
Keep in mind – it won’t be the things you do “on stage” that let people know who you truly are. It’ll be the things you do “off-stage” as you walk the walk of your everyday routine that make the truth of who you are known to others…and to yourself.
The 2016 Mars in Sagittarius seems to make a quiet start when it comes to upcoming transits. There’s only three major transits coming in the next 3 weeks, but they’re powerful! Here they are:
Sagittarius Mars square Virgo Venus, exact on 6th August – If you really want to upset the balance of your partnership (or if it’s already out of balance), it may take a major dose of hard fact in order to bring things back in to balance. Just be sure that you’re speaking factual truth when you try to set the record straight. Otherwise, your actions may come back to haunt you later. This balance is likely offset by the Virgo Moon-Venus conjunction on 3rd August in which emotions play a major part in creating a crisis of partnership Truth.
Also on 6th August, Sagittarius Mars as part of a Lunar Yod configuration, sextile the Libra Moon and quincunx Ceres in Taurus at the point – Keeping your emotions in check helps you be objective and honest with yourself about who you’re being and what you’re doing in regard to your current lifestyle and resources. This is a great time to face the reality of your personal lifestyle and values, and to acknowledge how honest you’ve been being with yourself and others about them.
