Mercury entered the sign of Aquarius at 2:43p PST on Saturday, 13th February 2016.
When it did, it shifted our conversations away from ambitions, goals, and shifted them toward what both connects to others and distinguishes from others us in community and humanity. Our thoughts, ideas, and communications are taking on a larger perspective as we begin to recognize how our individual thoughts and words have a much larger reach than we may have believed.
Under the influence of the 2016 Mercury in Aquarius, you will likely begin to see how your individual beliefs and ideas may be affecting others around you, for better and worse. You may finally be able to see and acknowledge that the way you think and speak really does affect the world…or at least your perspective of it.
You are now being given an opportunity to look at what you truly believe about your fellow human beings – how you (and others) interact with them, how you think and speak of them, and how you think and speak to them. Mercury in Aquarius puts you in a space to consider how you perceive and believe the world to be for yourself and for others, and to see how the world receives and perceives your communications in both individual and collaborative terms.
Aquarius is an air sign with a fixed modality. The ruling planet of Aquarius is Uranus, which is currently in the sign of Aries. Mercury is the ruling planet of another air sign, Gemini, which is also an air sign, but with a mutable modality. This means that we’re now experiencing a growing awareness of the impact individual or self-focused intellect, logic, and reasoning can have on the greater whole.
As the beliefs, conditions, and practices which have conventionally divided us continue to dissolve, we’re beginning to understand just how much what one person says can affect all of the people who are associated with that individual, directly or indirectly. We’ve been learning just how far and how quickly a message can travel when one of us within a community speaks, and how the assumptions by others outside of the group can generalize the identity of the entire group as result. One person’s fear, frustration, or anger – publicly stated – can make that person the spokesperson or public identity of a larger whole, whether that representation is accurate or not…or intentional or not.
For a while now, we’ve been experiencing the fallout from putting our individual fears about the evolution of society first and foremost. Some of us have been quick to defend what we believe to be our personal or individual interests much to the ignorance or avoidance of what is truly best for all of us. Yet we may have been fighting for our individual interests without considering the long-term effects of those defensive acts upon the greater whole.
Now with this 2016 Mercury in Aquarius, we have an opportunity to introduce new ways of thinking and speaking which can change those assumptions. Aquarius’ fixed modality may not take quickly to these new ideas…but Mercury is committed to awakening and re-educating humanity, bringing an abundance of new information and insight into our collective consciousness. Mercury in Aquarius is presenting our current social and societal status quo in a new light. As result, many people – instead of simply going along with whatever they’re being told – have begun asking questions whenever a change is proposed or presented to them. There is more individual and independent thinking in play at this time, and it has people looking at their social and societal associations, affiliations, networks, and communities in an altered or completely different way than they have before.
Though autonomous thoughts and beliefs are emerging and occurring with more frequency, some people may continue to be hesitant to break off or away from the communities and associations they no longer agree or align with. Despite their desire to break from their status quo, familiarity can breed dependency, and some may find themselves challenged by a need to feel like they belong to a community or need to feel connected to others in some way…even if those connections aren’t healthy or happy for them. They may hold onto traditions which no longer serve them well, or they may have difficulty adapting to changes in the world around them as they try to hold onto their status quo.
This will be the task for each of us under the influence of Mercury in Aquarius – to awaken to and have the courage to recognize that our newly-awakened individual and unconventional thoughts, ideas, and communications might be our access to the lives we each want to live yet don’t see a direct path to manifesting. Our “crazy” ideas and eccentric world views may be better shared, accepted, and appreciated in new or different communities encouraging different perspectives of humanity.
The key for you during this 2016 Mercury in Aquarius run will be to think about your place in your social circles and community as you, too, may be looking at yourself and your communities and social circles in a very different light.
Consider how are YOU choosing to think and speak about the world.
- What is the world you think you’re creating by thinking and speaking the way you are?
- What is the world you are actually creating or the effect you are really having upon others with your thoughts and words?
From there, consider the effect your thoughts and words may be having on the people around you.
- Do you feel like your ideas and words are making a contribution to others in your community?
- Do you enjoy and/or find fulfillment in the role you are playing for your fellow group members?
- Do you feel like what you uniquely bring to the table has a place where you are and among the people who surround you?
Your autonomous thoughts and communications may have you feeling like you’re moving forward all alone. Yet if you’re willing to take the risk to go your own way and be vocal about your True thoughts and beliefs, you may find yourself genuinely connecting with more people than you ever imagined.
Though Mercury enters Aquarius under the Aquarius Sun in 2016, there are no transits with other planets or points until after the Sun enters Pisces on Thursday, 18th February. Then there are two in the remainder of the month of February 2016:
Aquarius Mercury sextile Saturn in Sagittarius, most exact on 24th February – The more clear and committed you are to your beliefs, the more you’ll be able to find out if you’ll be able to grow and expand successfully with them. This is especially the case in public and career/professional terms. Are your thoughts and words giving you more freedom to grow and expand, or less?
Aquarius Mercury sextile Uranus in Aries, most exact on 26th February – Are you speaking what you truly believe in your heart to be true, or are you saying what you think others want to hear? Are your individual thoughts and words coming from your personal fears and upsets, or are you speaking with a genuine intent to improve matters for everyone in your community or humanity? Your words represent you and can get you everywhere you want to go…as long as you’re keeping the whole of humanity in mind.
Mercury will be traveling in Aquarius through 5th March.
