Mercury leaves Aries and moves into Taurus at 4:09p PDT on Tuesday, 5th April 2016. When Mercury enters this fixed earth sign, it shifts our minds away from independent and initiative actions to a new focus on the security and stability of our lifestyle values and resources.
Under the influence of Mercury in Taurus, you may notice that conversations and interactions begin to focus on the material, physical, and financial elements of our lives. There will be plenty of discussion about who has or doesn’t have certain resource needs, or how certain people value certain things that others don’t.
There will also be a lot of conversation about how to get what is wanted or needed in order to feel safe and secure in our varied lifestyles. What is the best means for acquiring the resources necessary to live the lifestyle one wants to live? In some cases, the question will be how does one acquire the resources needed in order to ensure their survival?
The mindset and lifestyle differences between “the haves” and “the have-nots” will always come to the fore during Mercury in Taurus periods. Yet unlike other times, this 2016 Mercury in Taurus will be one in which that gap begins to be bridged.
A large part of bridging the gap is teaching each other about one crucial step which many of us rarely take – how to ask for what we truly need or want.
Mercury is the mind and mouth of the Zodiac, and is almost always thinking and learning. It has a reputation for talking, but in truth, it talks to gather information more than to share it. It’s also associated with rapid movement and expedient action – things get done quickly under Mercury’s influence.
Taurus, on the other hand, has a slower and steadier presence. It represents the resources needed in order for one to live comfortably. Comfort means different things to different people. Sometimes, it’s having all of your material, physical, and financial resources just the way you want them. For others, it may simply be having enough money and stuff to carry in a backpack as you travel the world. Either way, Taurus represents what you believe you need to survive and to feel solid, safe, and secure in your survival. This is why Taurus is associated with your lifestyle – your lifestyle choices reflect your sense of stability, security, and safety in the world. This is also why your personal values affect the way you use your resources.
With Mercury in Taurus, the focus is upon the rapid acquisition of the information and resources necessary to secure a comfortable lifestyle. Yet for those of us who are constantly in a state of financial, material, or physical struggle, a large part of why we’re there is because we refuse to learn anything new about acquiring or managing our resources, or we resist asking for help. Many of us don’t want to be seen as lacking knowledge or intelligence, and we especially don’t want to be seen as asking for handouts or freeloading or being lazy. Some of us are so afraid of being labeled by others as any of those things. So, we work hard – possibly harder than we have to – in order to make our own ways and earn our own keep.
Yet in this day and age, many of us are working hard and still not getting what we want or living the lifestyles we want, or in some cases, need to live. We tend to assume that wanting and working is enough, yet we find ourselves experiencing disappointment again and again. We cannot understand how we work so hard only to be left wanting for more.
We refuse to see how we are working from our choices to be blind and ignorant, stubbornly denying ourselves access to the info and assistance which could help us take the steps up we need to take to bridge our gaps. We resist that as much as we may say want it, we do nothing to put ourselves in a position to receive. We cannot receive what we want if we 1) don’t ask for it, and 2) don’t put ourselves in a position to obtain it.
This is where the gap exists, and this is where using Mercury in Taurus to its full advantage could pay off. The beauty of this 2016 Mercury in Taurus is that each of us is in a position to help another person get what they need to live a life of comfort and security. It also serves to remember that we are in an Aries Sun period as this 2016 Mercury in Taurus period begins. Action is your friend at this time, and you need to put yourself out into the world in order to connect with both others whom you can help and others who can help you.
This isn’t about money alone – it’s about adding comfort and ease to each other’s lives. If you believe you don’t have anything to offer others, you won’t see how you might have value to someone else’s life. You also may miss out on someone else’s value to you. As much as it’s important for you to ask for what you need or want at this time, it’s also important for you to recognize your own value and the value of others in and around your life. If you don’t communicate your needs, no one can assist you in fulfilling them. Yet if you don’t communicate your value, no one can recognize your value to their lives. There is mutual benefit to openly exchanging value as both parties may be able to have their needs met through the exchange.
If you’re someone who has a difficult time either asking for assistance or acknowledging your value, this could be a rough Mercury period for you. If you can overcome your fears of being labeled or rejected, you might find yourself on a path to forward and upward progress.
Over these next few weeks, our varied lifestyles and lifestyle values will come to light. We will see the sometimes stark differences between what one person has and what another doesn’t. Yet by recognizing the value in others beyond money and stuff, you may realize that you, too, have value beyond your financial, material, and physical circumstances.
