Mercury entered Taurus at 8:37a PDT this morning, bringing some earthy sensibility to our minds and our communications. Thoughts and ideas come back down to earth, and we are able to articulate exactly what it is that we want to be, do, and have in our lives.
Taurus is an earth sign, focused on our lifestyle needs and desires. It covers the basics – a roof over head, food to eat, clothes to wear, and the like. Taurus’ placement in your astrology chart also addresses where you seek and find comfort and ease in your life. The thing is, the standard of comfort for each of us is different. What is comfortable for you may not be enough or may be too much for someone else.
When Mercury is in this sign, your mind may shift focus to these aspects of your life. You begin to focus on what has you feel like you are having your lifestyle needs met.
You may be someone who speaks to what you want your life to be and what you want to have. Yet you may find that you’re still waiting for your ship to come in or your numbers to be picked or your savior to come. You may not understand why you do everything you’re “supposed” to do, yet you don’t have the lifestyle you say you want.
This is where Mercury in Taurus can play a role for you and all of us – it’s time to shift your mindset.
When you don’t like where you are yet you find yourself still there, recognize that you are comfortable there! Accept that you have accepted where you are, and that you are accustomed to a certain way of living. Though you may aspire to something either greater or more simple, your conscious or subconscious mind(s) may still be okay with where you are or have always been. After all, it is what you’re used to – it’s the environment and/or circumstances you’ve been conditioned to accept as normal.
As long as you leave your internal standard for comfort where it is, you will continue to create it again and again, no matter what you are given or able to achieve. This is the phenomenon behind lottery winners who lose everything and return to their previous lifestyles in a matter of years or even months. This is what happens for people who claim to want a simple life, yet find they are unable to live without their gadgets and conveniences for an extended period of time, if at all. They are conditioned to a certain way of living, and without mental preparation or adaptation, they revert back to what they’ve always known before.
This 2013 Mercury in Taurus period arrives only a few hours after Mars in Taurus opposes Saturn in Scorpio. The opposition is bringing in “new rules and standards” for success and living in the midst of major cultural and structural changes. In my last blog post, I mentioned how those changes affect all of us on both the collective and individual levels.
This Mercury in Taurus phase dovetails nicely with that Mars-Saturn dynamic, and can be very helpful in assisting you through this process of change on a personal level by helping you keep your ideas and thoughts down-to-earth. By getting clear about a new lifestyle and aligning your mind with that desired lifestyle, you can then make strides toward that lifestyle without going back to your old one.
Mercury in Taurus calls upon you to ask yourself:
- What makes me feel comfortable and at ease?
- What do I really need to have my lifestyle needs met?
- Is what I want a need or a luxury?
- Does what I have give me a sense of fulfillment, or is it simply what I choose to settle for?
- Am I happy with the tangible/worldly reality of my life? (financial-material-physical resources and circumstances)
As you think about these details of your life, you may be able to choose the “new normal” that you are striving for. And in making that choice, you are able to allow your mindset to shift – to gradually (or quickly) become comfortable with a new standard of living. By shifting on a deep mind level, it won’t be something you’re just thinking and talking about – you’ll be able to actually bring it about.
Mercury in Taurus allows you to put your money (or resources) where your mouth is. By taking the time and doing the internal work necessary to shift your mind into a new standard of living, you can actually manifest that new standard of living over time, establishing a new normal for yourself and your life. And that time frame may be shorter than you could ever imagine.
Thank you for reading and sharing. Until next post…
